As for 2014 being Alabama's to lose, I don't agree because as the ESPN genius's said when talking about Ohio State's 21 game winning streak meaning nothing because each season stands on it's own merit. (I don't agree with this myself but if this is the criteria for one team it should be the criteria for all teams including Alabama). The BIG 12 and PAC 12 as well as Notre Dame were also "destroyed" in the title games so why aren't those conferences constantly put down like the BIG? AS for weak nonleague schedules, look who the SEC has played, it's just as bad if not worse than the BIG. Your comment about it being put up or shut up time for the other conferences is a very valid point.
I didn't mention anything about weak OOC schedules but you are correct...the SEC is just as bad about padding records with cupcakes.
I also agree that the media (especially CBS and ESPN with heavy ties to the $EC) are biased against the B1G and to an extent the other power conferences.
Nevertheless the SEC is clearly the dominant conference and will continue to be until NC's and major bowls start to be won consistently by one of the other conferences.
I don't see that happening any time soon though. Top recruits are attracted to the SEC because of the weather, the perception that the SEC will give them the best possible exposure to the NFL, etc.
The days where the B1G, Notre Dame, and other traditional football powers dominate the college football landscape are pretty much a thing of the past UNLESS Michigan, Nebraska, etc. can attract coaching talent like Urban Meyer. Not likely to happen.
Hopefully the beginning of a playoff system MIGHT change that. We'll see.
