They were pretenders even with Lopez. Terrible washed up roster. Wouldn't be surprised to see them make the playoffs (its the east after all) but that team sucks.

If this happens I will be done with the NBA for good. I mainly only pay attention to the cavs now with what the NBA has become, but this system would just completely ruin it for me. What a stupid fucking idea. The NBA might as well just go to 10 teams (all big market) and get it over with. With the current system, at least when your prima donna athlete wants to collude with another star player and leave his small market team (or just leave to a bigger city in general) the small market team has the hopes of finding a star with a top pick. With this system, it just completely dooms small market teams. Imagine the cavs having the 29th pick their first season after Lebron left. Not only that, top rookies will see the draft order before hand, and they might stay another year in college knowing that the top pick is going to a small market team, the following year the top pick is going to LA or NYC. The NBA is slowly becoming a joke where we can legitimately say only a handful teams have a chance of winning it all (look at the NFL, hell in the NFC alone I think 4 teams have a chance of winning it all), this system would make it even more lopsided. They were too cute with the lottery, and now they are getting too cute with this system. Not sure what preventing tanking is going to do. Unless you are a fan of that specific team, most casual NBA fans are not going to watch that team play if they suck ass, tanking or not.

If they are trying to get more people interested in the league and more excited about their teams, then follow the NFL's format. The NFL has a sense of parity, and they allow franchises to keep their star players.

I agree, might as well mandate that every team wins a trophy every 6 yrs too.

Also if you are the fanbase of a shitty team, and they completely whiff on the #1 pick, I am willing to bet that fanbase will check out for a long time considering their next pick will be #30.

Apparently the Celtics weren't happy with Lance Stephenson showboating when the Pacers were murdering them. My favorite part was this Born Ready quote:

The NFL Draft is much different than the NBA Draft. All picks are much more valuable and because of non-guaranteed contracts, teams are much more likely to focus on the draft. It makes picks tougher to trade and any future pick a HUGE risk to deal.

In the NBA, any pick outside of the top 20 or so is iffy to even make the roster and outside of the top 40 is very unlikely. The ability to build a roster in the NBA draft is much more difficult and takes longer than the NFL. One good draft in the NFL that brings you 5 or 6 immediate contributors can take a team from worst to playoffs (look at the Chiefs). Vice versa, look at the the Falcons who haven't done squat in the draft for 2 years.
