What would be the tiebreaker for home field advantage in the Wild Card game?

Head to head record, which will be broken this weekend as the current season series is tied.

Thanks, assumed that was it, but wasn't 100%.

The NL Wild Card game is on October 1st. Latos is scheduled to start the 27th. Will Latos get the start on only 3 days rest or will/should Dusty go with Cueto who has had 2 good starts since he's been back?

If I were Dusty, I'd start Cueto. He's usually really good against the Pirates, while they've had decent success against Latos.

It's gotta be latos. He's been the ace this year he deserves the start.

Heretic is just saying that because he'd rather face cueto!!!

Cueto's usually good for things like 7 shutout innings...with Latos, it's more like 4 runs in 6 or 3 in 5. So I'd love it if you went with him! As long as the bullpen doesn't fuck it all up like on Friday...

I just looked and Latos had his last start on the 20th. Why don't they just move his next start to tomorrow and that would give him 5 days until the 1 game playoff?

But are you guys going with a six-man rotation or trying to mix things around to have your best guns against the Pirates right now to have Latos on the 27th?

With the Pirates, I know Liriano and Latos both pitched on last Friday and, as far as I know, it's gonna be Cole and Liriano to finish off the Cubs and then Burnett, Morton and probably Cole (unless the game doesn't matter Sunday, where they'd probably just have Locke or Cumpton eat innings) against the Reds to save Liriano for the wild card.

I would be fine with Cueto going against the Pirates, his history against them is pretty good.

Answered my own question. Using Reynolds in the final game of this series because, fuck it, it's the Mets. Smart move, I'd say.

Cueto vs Pirates (career):
13-4, 2.37 ERA

Latos vs Pirates (career):
5-1, 2.96 ERA

I don't want to pitch Latos on short rest. Let Cueto pitch the Wild Card game and Latos can throw game 1 of the LDS.

Well, this year, Latos against Pittsburgh in 5 starts is: 28.2 innings, 15 runs, 13 earned. Which is roughly a 4.10 ERA or so, which is why I figured you're starting Reynolds tomorrow, so you can set things up so it'd be Cueto in the Wild Card game and Latos could be your Day 1 starter next year after that's over.

In before...

Fuck Dusty. Apparently Ludwick leaving a thousand runners on base last night doesn't matter.

Good news. Reds have announced that Mat Latos will be moved to tomorrow, removing Greg Reynolds out of the scheduled spot. Johnny Cueto is the scheduled starter Sunday vs Pittsburgh. So, we're looking at...

Leake vs Mets
Latos vs Mets
Bailey vs Pirates
Arroyo vs Pirates
Cueto vs Pirates
Latos vs Pirates (play-in)
Bailey vs Braves (game 1)
Cueto vs Braves (game 2)
Latos vs Braves (game 3)

Of course, this is all subject to not winning the division and the Braves hanging onto home field.

I was still somewhat baffled as to why with 5 healthy starters and an off day this week, Reynolds was even being considered at all.

Nice! Hopefully Johnny keeps it going Sunday, while I'm in attendance.

Also, if Sunday's game is somehow meaningless, the Reds could throw Leake and move Cueto to game 1 of the NLDS and bump Bailey to game 2. Either way, they have set up the top 3 in the rotation exactly how it should be.

Also, Tony Cingrani threw 25 pitches out of the pen today with no pain. They hope to get him into a game or 2 before the regular season so he can be on the postseason roster.

I'd like to see Marshall and Cingrani as the only lefties with Parra left off, but it may be seen as too big of a risk given their health.

Parra has been pretty damn good since May. I can't see him being left off.

Votto and Bruce mesmerized by 92 mph fastballs right down the center of the plate. Joey took 3 of them right down the middle.

Well, at least Leake has a good ERA!

WHIP
Cingrani 1.09
Bailey 1.11
Leake 1.24

BAA
Cingrani 2.20
Bailey 2.34
Leake 2.58

H/9
Cingrani 6.7
Bailey 7.8
Leake 8.7

We won't even get into K/9, BB/9, K:BB and other power/control ratios.

At least this is Leake's LAST APPEARANCE of the season. Glad he responded so well to the moment.
