If you're looking for something constructive, I'll tell you what turns me off....non specific threads that are older than 10 days and 20+ pages long.
Some threads are 200 pages long, and I suppose that's fine if you are always on the site, but I think it makes it hard for someone new to follow and participate....so if you are looking to recruit new people why make it hard for them to have to wade through all the Sh**. If there are items of general interest, make seperate threads so it's easy to follow if there are any new/active postings on the subject. As an example, consider the college football polls...that should be a seperate topic and not lumped in with a general college football talk thread. Somebody posted a thread on it a few weeks ago and was told to go read about it in the general thread. If i'm a newbie on the site and I'm scanning the boards, and want to talk about the latest BCS poll, there's no way I'm going to find the discussion buried on page 34 of the 'college football talk' thread...nor would I want to wade thruall the other stuff on the thread looking for it.
JMHO.

I mean, some of them are a little too long and I completely get his point, because I do the same.
There are topics that I would venture to, but its so long and I am so far behind (because of being gone for a week or whatever) and I just say fuck it and avoid.

Im not saying long threads are dumb.
But I dont think its a bad idea to maybe have "NBA Random Chatter" and have it for a specific timeframe as opposed to the entire season.
Thats just a random example of the top of my head. There are probably better ones out there.

The season long sports topics are fine. Usually the poll shit for CFB would get its own separate thread weekly and this year someone decided to run it inline with the season long clusterfuck. All someone has to do is start a fucking poll thread on Sundays when they come out.
