This was just reported by CBS at half time of the Steelers/Ravens game. CBS source is Tony Barnhart.

Thoughts......................

I sure wish him well on his health situation. This is starting to smell a bit fishy though.

It's probably because he didn't want to forfeit all that cash on his contract.

Good end result for Florida if this turns out to be true. Recruits that want to play for Meyer won't shy away from committing. Holidays and time around family would tend to prduce a "hasty" decision without discussing options with the university I would imagine. Florida giving him the option to take the time off to get right health wise speaks highly of their regard for him and his family. Good move on their part.

A leave of absence until next fall when he's on the Cowboys sideline.

It kind of sounds like he can take a leave of absence and have job security when he wants to return.

correct. LOA was offered by Foley before yesterday, but Shelley wants him to quit. He was already offered a position in the ath. dept. , to be defined later. After sleeping on it, Urban is taking LOA, might even have some surgery soon.

Addazio named interim coach.

Sounds like Meyer is pulling a Coach K and let the interim coach take all of the lumps during a rebuilding year.

Florida loses at least three games next year if not more. The whole interim coach deal NEVER works. The players know that Addazio isn't really in charge and won't fully respect him. Then ol' Urban rides in and gets to be the hero in '11.

^^^Just what I was thinking, I think he will eventually leave all together. Calling it a LOA keeps this years recruiting class in tact, but IMO he will be gone for good soon.

Yup. Addazio will be the interim HC and Meyer can come back whenever he wants. Bum rap for Addazio.

I don't know how this is a bad thing for Addazio. It isn't as though he'd have been hired as a head coach at Florida if none of this happened. He gets one year to see how it goes and if his stock is up, he'll be looked at for opportunities he probably wouldn't have had otherwise. If he doesn't do well, he's likely to stay on when Meyer returns and he's better off not getting in over his head somewhere else.

Ask Pete Gaudet how that goes.

Two completely different situations, but obviously Gaudet wasn't up to the task. Would he have ever known that otherwise? That situation showed that he was pretty much going to be a career assistant at that level.

I'm starting to think this whole thing is fishy. I wouldn't be shocked if he is taking a leave of absence to wait until the NFL season is over and see if the Jacksonville Jags or Cleveland Browns job become open. That way if he doesn't get neither one, he can remain at Florida. Too bad I don't get paid to speculate lol.

The problem is that an "interim" coach doesn't have the final say and the players know it. It is tough to totally respect the man as the head coach when the real head coach is eventually going to come back. It also gives the players and fans a convenient excuse when things get tough (i.e. "this wouldn't happen when Coach Meyer gets back"). It is an extremely tough position to be put in.
