Me? There was a time back in the day that I was told that someone else would be taking over my role - I left and got another job. I didn't work for my employer for 3-4 months to get the new guy up to speed out of the kindness of my heart. Why should Orgeron owe USC anything? This is now Sarkisian's program, and USC and him can now develop, but when you are told you don't have a future with any business it shouldn't be expected for you to stick around.

You make good points although comparing your job to that of a college head coach I am not sure about. And Orgeron didn't just up and leave, he supposedly threw a huge fit. He was offered the asst. head coach with a salary that would be the highest paid asst. in college. Pretty sweet deal to just up and quit from IMO.
Anyway, we can agree to disagree. But I do see your points.

How many teams fire coaches during the season, and have interim coaches coaching them in bowl games? Most bowl game interim coaches are there because the head coach took another job prior to the bowl. This isn't something that happens very often. Also, the OSU situation was different, Fickell was named the head coach for the year, and was paid for it. He did it knowing he wasn't getting the job.

Good valid points. But again, if Orgeron thought he was going to get this job, he was living in a fantasy land. It was obvious from the get go, USC was going to hire a big name coach or an an asst. from the NFL, OR someone with head coaching experience at a major university. Orgeron was NOT a successful head coach previously. I think anyone with common sense knew this.

Historical precedent isn't necessarily useful here because each college coach opening is unique because every circumstance is different.

While I think he was absolutely within his right to leave, he handled it so poorly that he's almost in the wrong. He preached all about loving these guys, and then literally walked out on them for the bowl game.

Just because he doesn't want to stay on doesn't mean he has to pout that he didn't get the job. Even if he does want to pout, you just can't do what he did after publicly saying what he said previously.

Perhaps Haden should have been honest with him then, instead of coming out and saying Orgeron is in the running for the job, then not even interviewing him. Haden had no intention to hire him, but wanted to use him to hopefully keep the team playing well.

I don't have a problem with Orgeron. USC hiring Sarkisian instantly probably felt like a huge slap in the face, especially without him even getting an interview. It's not like Sarkisian is some top coach. What has he ever won? He helped Washington win a few more games than usual...cool.

UW was real good until they suffered major injuries. Started the season pretty solid

meh. Their best wins are over 8-4 boise or 7-5 Arizona, both of which were before the injuries, and every team has injuries. I don't see any wins over anybody they shouldn't have beaten.

But Mariota is coming back to Oregon. Really going to flourish(again) if he stays healthy.

He's rated a top 4 pick on all draft boards if he came out. Kipers got him at 5 and McShays got him at 3.

No way Mariota was ready, and if he don't vastly improve his passing(which is unlikely in that offense), then his NFL "career" will be short lived.

Charlie Strong screwed up at the end of the 4th. Cost his team 43 seconds by not using timeouts effectively.

And there it is. Chris Peterson finally leaving Boise and heading to UW. Read somewhere (maybe twitter) that this was the job he desired all along. If so I am surprised he didn't make the jump when Sark was hired. Maybe didn't want to walk into a team that just went 0-12...
