It is amazing how much the tire tread matters. I need 2 new ones on my Accord... driving on 471 last week during the Reds rainout was scary shit.

In 92' during the monsoon of a game with Illinois and OSU I was driving on I 71 south when a lady in a beat up early 80's thunderbird flew by me and I was doing 60. No sooner had she passed me that she changed lanes and proceeded to do a 720 spin! Luckily she stopped in the outside of the lane facing forward and no one hit her. When I went by she had the wheel gripped in terror and the look on her face was priceless! My wife has a 2012 Buick Enclave with 12,000 miles on it with Michelin tires and on I 74 on way home from Myrtel I changed lanes that were under repair and it had just stopped raining had a valley between the two and the car started to hydro, my sphincter puckered doing 80! lol

Factory tires. Only 21K on them. Tires are fine.

Some pertinent information to this story:

1) I was drinking a tall boy whilst this happened (although it had no effect on it)
2) I posted this thread right after it happened, whilst still driving.

I have to be cautious in my Jeep as my tires are worn. I don't want to get new tires until it is lifted, which should be sometime this summer. So it's slow in the rain for me, but I only travel 2.3 miles to work at speeds of 35mph or less

Taking curves in a Wrangler with junk tires = bad things.

The result of someone hydroplaning into a house beside my apt yesterday (note, it wasn't the black car that hit it)

Lost my last car travelling east on I-70 from Columbus, right above Livingston Road. Light rain, but light for a while. Speed: 45 mph, and being passed as if I was coasting. Tire tread: fair. Couldn't see Lincoln's head. Back end just left me as I was taking the bend. Somehow avoided two cars, and a third car avoided me. I hit the bridge wall, completed the 360, then pulled over. Air bag deployed, front end resembled an accordion, and I was leaking fluid. After about 5 minutes of assessing the situation I said "Screw it!" and drove the roughly 5 miles to my dad's house.

Whatevs.

I did it once while driving I-95 north out of Jacksonville, Fl. Needless to say, I totaled my truck.

I've never had it happen to me for a long enough duration to lose control. It has happened to me long enough for me to tense up.
