Surprised nobody made a thread about this, but the speed limit jumped on Ohio highways from 65 -> 70mph. The change was definintely felt on I-70 between Dayton/Columbus.

For whatever reason down here the speed limit is 55 in a lot of places on our four lane highways? Some places it's 60 and the only area it's 65 mph is in Gallia County on Rt 35???

Pretty sure it went into effect on July 1st.

Sorry.....we consider highways as anything that's a state route and 4 lane.
Those roads 70/75/71/77 seem not to have an enforced speed limit anyway

Nope......been on all of them a bit and 70/71 a good bit.....
On 70 and 71 it just seems like there is always someone flying by you at 85 mph+ and you can just trail them and just never get bothered.

Because it wasn't paid for by the federal government.
Route 35 is 4 lane from Dayton to about 10 miles into West Virginia. I don't think that stretch has any red lights either. It did used to go 2 lane-4 lane-2 lane-4 lane....but it's all 4 lane except from past Dayton to Eaton and for about 15 miles in West Virginia before you get to Charleston.

I usually drive 75-80 on the interstate. So, it doesnt affect me really, just lowers my chance to get a ticket.

Ironman, another distinction is the fact that Interstates don't have intersections, only on ramps. US 35 has intersections and the fear is going 70 with cars going across a highway is a recipe for disaster. I was in Myrtle and on the way home future interstate 73, which was speculated as going through SE ohio is built in North Carolina, however, it was meant to run from Michigan to Myrtle, but South Carolina, West Virginia, Michigan and Ohio refuse to build it, and in this economy who can blame them.

Ramps make sense.....but not to be able to go 70 mph on Rt 32 is just ridiculous.....it's straight and it's flat but I swear every other day in Pike Co someone pulls right in front of me at an intersection where you can see for a 1/2 mile.

I usually am on 80-90, so I did not realize that 75, 71, 70 did not increase to 70 yet like the turnpike did two years ago.

Nor does US 35 between the west side of Xenia and Richmondale, roughly a 75 mile stretch. In between these towns, I see no reason why the speed couldn't be 70 with the exception of the Chillicothe ramps between 104 and 159. Too much merging traffic there to have such high speeds. I 73 is a different animal. South of Columbus, the section of current US 23 between SR 207 and SR 104 (on both ends of Chillicothe) is the only section built as limited access. I got to drive 70 yesterday in I-71 between route 83 and I-76.

Not that huge of a deal.
But I did notice when I travel that on roads that aare 70 the traffic flows better.
A certain amount of the pop will travel the speed limit.
Certain percentage will travel at a speed they feel comfy at.
Certain % will speed 10+ no matter what.
I think in states that are 70 that you have those who drive teh limit, and I think many of those who drive at a speed they are comfortable at, 70, merge together and get a better flow

I am constantly driving all over the state for work. This will make the long trips 20-30 minutes shorter (just by going 5 MPH faster form what I go now). Huge.

Just returned from Georgia, and the 70 MPH is definitely nice. Dayton is still a bitch, and 65 MPH b/t Dayton/Cincy is retarded. There are 3-4 lanes the entire way. Why not make it 70? Or why not put up digital speed signs, so you can change the speed when necessary?

2. They likely made it 65 because that area is growing and won't be "rural" for too long.
