It's a pretty short article that just points out some of the huge failings of the music industry (and the same narrative is eerily similar to that of the sports world when you think about it, thanks ESPN).
The collapse of the record industry and the subsequent glut of music festivals and never-ending tours have created a perception vacuum that's been filled with media coverage; story lines are now the only currency with any (perceived) value for measuring popularity. Bigness used to be felt by the public; now it's dictated.

At the very least, I'll have to look into this Deafheaven group, as the death/black label I've seen attached to it is what I listen to, and the critical acclaim it's gotten intrigues me.

Guess I didn't get overly into the article, as I got excited when he talked about that, causing all the pop acts and known popular commodities to lose all relevance to me.

*mainstream music industry.

Everything I'm into these days is great and only getting better. Stay far away from the radio/TV "music" industry and you'll be better off.

I definitely recommend the album (and I rarely listen to metal anymore)

Youtubed Dream House off the album last night and it's definitely original. Like zone-out alternative instrumentally, but with screaming. A different version of black metal. Kinda reminds me a bit of Nachtmystium in that aspect (thanks to songs like Ruined Life Continuum, which is almost like a heavier, screaming Smashing Pumpkins sound). Definitely interesting in hearing more of their stuff.
