LJ has reported a post.

Reason:
Honestly Justin, this is an awful idea. No successful forum I have ever been a part of does anything like this. Nor do they let the members decide on the core moderation staff.

I meant a term limit system, not replacing Fly with ohiobucks.

To counter, I'm a member of a couple forums that have successfully done this.

I think it could create a perverse incentive structure to promote inactivity or "moderating universally unpopular opinions" from moderators. The more you do with regards to enforcing the rules, the more people will dislike you. The only time enforcing rules would be popular is if it was to get rid of someone universally hated such at Cats Gone Wild.

But I'm not that active in forums beyond this, and I haven't seen this kind of proposed structure before.

Places like Offtopic.com will dump mods constantly for doing a bad job, but nowhere have I ever been where they just give a mod a specific time limit. They complain about inconsistent moderation, and a way to make that worse is to give mods a time limit and change them up constantly. When you keep your base core of moderators, it increases the consistency of moderation and improves the posting. Honestly, this place has the most lax moderation I have ever seen when it comes to personal attacks and harassment (besides reddit, op is a ******). Like that would have been banned from every other forum I am on a long time ago.

Well, I've never seen anything identical to what is being promoted. But I have seen a few do a purge of all mods and then a re-nomination/vote process.

::Putting my tinfoil hat on::

I also feel like there is a push by some for another method to remove moderators as the vote is now swinging in my favor.

ex. from Like_That
Just set up all mods in a multiple vote poll. You vote for the mods you think are doing well. Justin sets a minimum vote count for a mod to remain as a mod. Any mod who doesn't reach that count is relegated, and a new mod will be elected.

IE you need 20 votes. Everyone but cry4fail gets 20 votes. Cry4fail is removed, and we vote on a new mod to replace him.

Also, by saying I am not totally opposed doesn't mean I am going to do it.
