I know it's awful and ridiculous....but she was the most impressive athlete I've ever seen in high school. Freak of nature.

What is this WNBA that the article mentions? Never heard of it.

It's a bunch of strangely sized "women"...with small verticals playing basketball. Katie could dunk a volleyball at 5'11 in high skool....so she's the best.

Have you ever attended ANY high level athletics in high school?

I've seen dozens of athletes just in my own high school days that blow away any WNBA player...

I assume you have never seen her play? She has definitely had a tremendous career in all ranks.

I've seen her play. His comment was "the most impressive athlete I've ever seen in high school. Freak of nature." She's a great women's basketball player, but I'm sorry, no female basketball player fits the bill of "freak of nature." Not even Brittney Griner.

The fact the WNBA is still at it despite not actually having fans is pretty incredible.

Per her competition (girls)....pretty avid fan for around 30 years, have coached varsity for 20 different seasons....no one is even close. I've not witnessed anyone break the state shot put and discus record at an invitational track meet and then go win the 100m. I haven't ever seen a 5'10 or 5'11 girl stand underneath the rim and vertically jump and break down the rim. I've never witnessed another athlete that I though could win a basketball game 1 on 5 (barring stall tactics) and I've never again witnessed a volleyball spike knock an opponent out of a match.

Yes, have seen plenty of boys that would beat her.....but on the girl side, it's not even remotely close.

I prefer we avoid NSFW pics of Griner lol....but I'd rather look at her than listen to her talk.

Admit a little trolling here but for good reason. Theirs a 17 yr old HS girl named Mary Cain right now doing something very very special. She has the #5 fastest time in America for the world championships qualifying this weekend....talking Olympic, post-college caliber athletes, all ages.
Mary Cain hold the national HS record from every distance from 800m to 5000m. She's ran under 2 minutes for 800m. She's ran 9:38 for the 2 mile and 15:45 for the 5000m.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Cain_(athlete)

Starting to believe she's the GOAT HS athlete........male or female.

If and it's a big if she continues to develop...it will be no contest. She will be the greatest. Her diversity of performances is pretty sick for her age.

If the NBA chooses to keep subsidizing it, it could be around for a long time.

As a former district track coach of the year (obvious humble brag) I can say those times are damn near unbelievable. Stephanie Morgan was in our district for a couple years and she was astoundingly good....this girl doing 9:48 3200's is beyond silly. 15:45? What's her too 1600? 4:30

At one point she held the shot and discus record. I thought she won both state titles but maybe not.
