Someone explain because my mind is blown.

I know the OC is the place for an explanation.

I thought it was cool because it was so unexpected. And it was a VERY good execution of an illusion. They set it up for him to be one of these horribly bad acts, and he played it up. Crowd completely against him and booing and then BOOM! he turned it around instantly and shockingly. One comment I saw that was there live said TV didn't really capture just how dramatic it was.

Does he have enough other tricks to be more than a street performer? Probably not, nor will what I think he does next be nearly as impressive.

Whenever I see a trick I always have to know how it works. The trick uses a modified version of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etSivpBHUmE

I bet he had some kind of base under the rug that he hooked his stick up to, and all of the sound/hand movement was to distract people from him hooking up the cane to the rest of the apparatus in his robe.

Yeah, I saw something similar using a curved bar, which is how I'd guess he did it. But I've never seen that trick before.

When I see a trick, I always assume that A Wizard Did It and go on with my life wishing I could do magic too, because I'd totally be setting everything on fire like a video game mage gone evil.
