Anyone following this? Crazy shit in Istanbul and the capital city, Ankara.

Here are some pics (NSFW):

The Turkish government has restricted all social media and refuses to cover these events on Turkish television. As a revolution is going on in their capital city, the gov't is airing a documentary about Penguins.

NOTE: Not trying to turn this political, hopefully this can stay in SB.

A peaceful sit-in over the destruction of the last park in Istanbul was the catalyst that started this, correct? I saw some pictures from that first day and they were pretty brutal. Some lady was killed from a gas canister to the head. Another guy was sprayed with some sort of chemical while holding a sign and eventually died. Fucked. Up.

Yep all started in the park in Istanbul. Peaceful protests turned blood shed.

I've been following as much as reddit has allowed me, since people keep reposting it.

It's interesting, but I don't get worked up about things like that. They live completely different lives in a different society.

While it is something that gets me "worked up" as a human it's definitely not something I'd want the US to get involved in.

You literally don't care about anything besides your job thread, so this is not surprising.

So do I. Was actually in the middle of planning a trip to Istanbul next march. Looks like that ain't happening anymore. I think we're going to New Zealand instead.

That sucks. Where were you taking off from? I'm amazed by Byzantine architecture and planning a trip to Instanbul sometime soon to take some pictures.

Crazy stuff.

Here in America we think we have it so terribly bad because of gas prices, the guy we voted for didn't win the election, etc.

Puts things into perspective.
