I have a friend and his parents own a farm, good size I think.
He was telling me that his parents can’t grow Sweet Corn in one of the fields because an EPA (I think) inspected the field and found deer shit. Because the sweet corn is for human consummation they ban the field for two years from growing sweet corn. Is this even possible?

He also mentions that his parents can’t use the seeds from their crops they have to purchase seeds from a seed producer like Monsanto … is this also true?

I saw this article where Monsanto sued a farm because his field was across from Monsanto hybrid testing corn crop.

http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110927/01185716104/monsanto-wins-patent-dispute-against-farmer-who-bought-legal-seeds.shtml

If you are a farmer or have information about this type of bullshit agenda please enlighten the OC of some of this regulation being applied to famers.

Monsanto (pure evil) has patented seeds that they do not allow farmers to save and regrow. They force farmers to re-buy seeds every year. I think something like 80% of the corn grown in the US is from Monsanto seeds. They've sued and ruined the lives of so many farmers, it's despicable. They've even taken to suing farmers for bee's cross-pollenating from their GMO corn to the farmers non-bullshit corn.

An angry mob needs to storm their facilities and burn them to the fucking ground. They are so deep in bed with the government that it's really the only way to get to them. They are slowly and systematically trying to take control of the worlds food supply and we are giving them a free pass.

Sounds like a problem with the government. The company sounds quite wise with their actions.

I wouldn't use the word wise, but I agree that a big portion of the problem lies with the government.

.
That's typically a myth. The real stories out there are that the seeds were blowing from Roundup fields to non-roundup fields, the farmer(s) (there is only 1 recorded case for blowing seeds, and it was in Canada) knew that what had happened as the corn was obviously different. He then cleaned and reused the seeds the following year to plant large amounts of Roundup corn and was promptly sued.

You didn't use the word wise. I did.

Based on your post and your post alone I applaud the efforts of the company and don't see anything wrong with their actions.

As for "in bed with the Government" same thing goes for farmers. How many billions are spent on farmers who get bailed out every time we have a short drought?

the internet wrote: The court found that while the technology agreements Monsanto requires growers to adhere to forbids farmers from selling the progeny of Roundup Ready seeds, those agreements do not extend to second-generation seed.

In fact, Monsanto authorizes the growers to sell their second-generation seed to grain elevators as a commodity and does not require restrictions on grain elevators' subsequent sales of that seed, the court said.

But that still does not give growers a green light to replicate Monsanto's patented technology by planting it in the ground to create "newly infringing genetic material, seeds and plants," the court found.

I farm tomatoes and jalapenos in my 4'X6' plot in my yard, but I've never heard of any of this.

Why can't the government just leave us farmers alone!!!

I agree that the farm subsidies in general are ridiculous.

Really So there is some truth to this idea of banning crops, controlling seeding and sueing farmer for cross pollenating with test crops. WOW

The problem is their seed is slowly taking over the entire supply. That is their end goal.

From the company's perspective I don't see that as a problem but rather wise.

Why so venomous towards the company?

So what? If they don't like the copy rights and patents, find another seed company or quit being farmers.

Mrs. FFT owns some farms through a family partnership but they don't actively farm. But we're semi-involved in various management decisions.

My understanding of the seed issue is that it's done to prevent certain genetic mutations that would make insects and diseases resistant. Most farms are required to set aside portions that the bugs gravitate to so as to slow mutations. If people cheat and reuse the seeds, it increases systemic risks through free-rider type issues. So as I understand it, the rules make sense.

And yes, the farm subsidies are stupid and disproportionately benefit rich white people, like my in-laws.
