Anyone have their high school graduation and a tournament baseball game/ track meet at the same time or somewhat conflicting?

As a coach I had to haul ass from Pickerington to graduation a few years ago and got the kid back as his row was called 6 min before graduation ended....stressful as crap.

Got it tomorrow with my own kid in the district championship game and graduation shortly after.....I love the opportunity, my daughter thinks it's awesome and my wife in nearing a nervous breakdown.

I've had track kids skip graduation when they had no chance to get out of the districts.

Where's the game...Northwest?

Should make it back with a little time to spare. Definitely a busy day for you guys though.

Good luck in the softball game and congrats on her academic accomplishments. You'll be one proud Dad tomorrow.

My girlfriend in hs was running at the state track meet and her graduation was same day. The school brought the 4 of them back in a helicopter.

I had this problem. I chose to skip graduation , but I didn't really have a choice. The track meet was a good 4
hours away. There was 2 of us that had to miss.

To us it wasn't a big deal. Our parents didn't have any problems with us missing it as well .

I also tried to skip my college graduation to go to a last chance qualifier for the national
meet, but decided that my throw should be good enough to get in. My mom had a little problem with me trying to skip this one lol.

I skipped my high school graduation because I had a track meet. I set a new state record in the 1600 and 3200, so I wasn't too mad about it.

Used to run into this all the time when my kids were in school. Graduation is only a ceremony....and it is just high school. I suppose some might look at it differently, but high school graduation was always a given, and none of my kids we valedictorians or salutatorians.

I don't necessarily look at it differently, but would point out that the same points can be made in reverse (it's just a game and just high school).

I wasn't a good enough athlete to be in state competition and can't remember if my graduation would have coincided with anything anyway, so it was a moot point for me.

If there would have been a sports-related conflict, that could have made things interesting...

I'd have been like, "Fuck this noise, I'm competing!". My parents were more academic-oriented, with my mom being a school system employee, so I could EASILY see them overruling that with the "This is a very important moment in life and you're not missing it!" reasoning.

And with my general selfishness and lack of common sense from back then, I could easily see myself being THAT GUY who gets kicked out of his own graduation for flipping off the crowd or mooning everyone. Especially since my graduation wound up being in the gym due to weather and it was a pretty blah experience with the humidity and heat in there. I'd have been in a pure "fuck this" mood for the whole day.

If we were talking about a sports ceremony, then yes. A graduation is just a ceremony talking about what you already did. The game/meet is what you are still doing.

I used to work at a newspaper (my first job out of college) and I remember interviewing a girl who had a similar (if not exact) experience ... it's been a while, but I think she was from one of the Dublin schools. Same person? I would guess it was around 1998 or 1999.
