I have gone through the steps in the Facebook app on my Android to turn off those annoying push notifications (https://www.facebook.com/help/103859036372845/)
However, they STILL have been coming this past week. Please help me find other places where these push notifications are allowed. Thanks!

I laughed today on teh Book. I was on a status making a post and noticed that of the five sponsored ads on the right, two involved marijuana in some way and a third was promoting Bob Weir's (former Grateful Dead member) current band.
Facebook...you know me better than all but my closest friends!

there must have been a update to the app to include ongoing notifications. I just turned mine off by going into the app, menu button, settings, uncheck the box for "Ongoing notifications" near the bottom of the menu.
I have an Android phone, not sure what you use.

I have Android, too. After reading your post, I went through the menu again, and instead of selecting Privacy Settings like I had been doing (which has the setting to turn off Push Notifications), I selected Account > App Settings. In there, "Notifications" were still active. I Deactivated it. We'll see if it works (I have a feeling it will). If this DOES work, it's stupid that I can turn off push notifications yet still get them.karen lotz;1443337 wrote:there must have been a update to the app to include ongoing notifications. if it doesn't work, open the facebook app and go to the settings there. there is another option that I needed to uncheck.

Very happy Ive gotten rid of Facebook, tired of reading the same crap from the same people everyday.
Twitter is much better IMO. Facebook will be like Myspace and fade away.

Yeah, Im about done with it. Seems the only people who use it are middle aged women sharing stupid shit and making 10 statuses a day or teen mom's talking about nothing but their kid. Nobody wants to see your baby's ass with a rash on it with you asking Facebook what it is. Get a life.Tigerfan00;1443410 wrote:Very happy Ive gotten rid of Facebook, tired of reading the same crap from the same people everyday.

On a semi-related note...Google + got overhauled yesterday. Pretty slick UI.
I'd suggest those of you (all of you) who tried it out to check it out again.

Facebook can be very annoying at times, but I just block or delete those responsible. I think it's a good tool for keeping in touch with friends and family. I think it also helps that my friends and I are basically there for the shenanigans and lulz. We get ridiculous sometimes, which is entertaining to me.

What put me off the most about Facebook was the fact that people kept posting stuff that completely changed how I viewed them, and then I simply didn't want to associate with them anymore.
Whenever there was a school/movie theater shooting, I'd end up unfriending handfuls of people at a time. It got to a point where my newsfeed was just random people and a few close friends. It was at that point where I pulled the trigger and just closed the damn thing.
My social life didn't suffer, and I sleep a little bit better not seeing pictures of some random prick from high school's ugly baby/wedding pictures.

I MEET THEM: Cool, laid-back stoner-type.
I SEE THEM ON FACEBOOK: Mr. Political Meme Poster who may be retarded enough to fit in with our Political Board stalwarts.

I always enjoyed the people who were very outgoing then had kids and get on there and bitch because they couldnt get a babysitter.
Another example of genious are the people who'd whine about there spouse or b/f or g/f and of course someone would run and tell the person they just dogged on Facebook and a day later you'd see "went from being in a relationship to being single".
