Exactly why I feel bad for Smart and do not at all blame him. There's no doubt it was a racial slur of some sort.

The ESPN announcer who was calling Smart a "disgrace" and "despicable person" and for him to be suspended in a fashion similar to Ron Artest is a fucking idiot. Agree that you can't push fans, but that fan should've been T'd up as well for interfering/altercating with a player and the incident negated.

Something was definitely said, because he moves towards him first, the man talks more, then he shoved him. Regardless you can't push someone in the stands.

Jeff Goodman and Adrian Branch calling for a lengthy, possibly season-ending suspension for Smart.

Anyone who watched it live knows that is ridiculous. An apparent redneck Texas Tech fan got in Smart's face as he was trying to get up after diving into the stands for a loose ball and yelled something (likely racial) at Smart. Smart then pushed him back to get the man out of his grill. That's it. And now you've got ESPN turning this into a Malice in the Palace situation and are devoting all of SportsCenter to it. I really hate ESPN.

It should be a multiple game suspension, if for no other reason then to set a precedent for the future.

But in reality, he got up and took a step towards the guy who probably called him an N-Bomb. The guy obviously didnt apologize and Smart pushed him. It isnt like he punched him or started a brawl. It was a mistake, and need to be punished, but this is so far from Artest its laughable...

SportsCenter has now stopped all other programming and diverted all attention to this "developing story." Seth Greenberg, one of the worst basketball coaches in ACC history who apparently has become the ultimate basketball guru as an analyst (LOL), is calling it the worst incident in basketball since the Malice in the Palace.

Fucking ESPN is almost worse than Entertainment Tonight sometimes, I swear to God. They are constantly trying to drub up dramatic storylines. SportsCenter is a tabloid news show at this point, not the sports program I grew up loving.

Yeah I agree, that night in Detroit I was actually worried after awhile. Almost had a full on riot that night

I'm more outraged by the fact that fans stormed the court after beating a team with a now identical 4-6 conference record.

It'd be interesting to hear Smart's side of the story. I'm sure these guys get called every name in the book at one point or another. Smart was carrying on like whatever was said was going to excuse him from pushing the fan.

smart clearly says f"ing racist once, he says racist many times after that to players and coaches. Also it looks like the dude freaks out when smart jumps up and comes towards him and says sorry about that. If this dude said something racist, you can't condone what smart did, but it HAS to play a part in a suspension. A old man talking shit to a college kid, gtfoh

I'm not claiming that fan is a saint or anything. I know absolutely nothing about him. But to jump to the conclusion that he must have dropped the n-bomb is a bit presumptuous. The guy was surrounded by women (most men behave better in women's company) and looks to have a non-white (possibly half-black or hispanic) woman behind him who doesn't react in a negative manner. Also, his teammate who was right there as hewas getting up would have heard it and we'd probably have reports about it by now.

Just because you think Smart is saying "Racist" doesn't mean something racist was actually said. Smart could think he was being racist just because he was an old white guy talking trash to a young black student.

Now again, I don't know anything about the guy but to just assume that he must have something racist is a bit much.

A season ending suspension almost seems like too much, but I could see the rationale behind it. Also, there are only 8 games left in the season (ignoring conference and post-season tournaments).

Don't care what Marcus Smart says, want to know what a witness said was said. It's too easy for a black kid to pull the racial card, especially after just making an ass of yourself in the middle of a train wreck season you are responsible for.

It doesn't matter what the fan said or didn't say, this is 100% on Smart. He will, and definitely should, be suspended for multiple games. There is literally no reason to go after a person in the stands as a player.

RE: The fan -- from the Yahoo column I read, he was described as a "super fan". "Super fans" are pretty much always attention whoring pieces of shit. Add in the fact he's a Texan and that goes up to a 100% certainty he's a piece of shit.

Conclusion: Smart should be punished accordingly for his actions. The fan should permanently lose his ticket-holding privileges and be a "super fan" from his couch.

If the guy truly dropped the N bomb on smart, then I don't really blame smart for reacting the way he did, but at the same time he should know better. As for the fan, he can go fuck himself if he did say that. There is no room for that shit at a sporting event imo. I could be wrong, but I think soccer leagues even punish teams if their fans start racist chants.
