Anyone have to go through this pain? I bought a fixer up boat with trailer. Need to get license for trailer, but I need to get it weighed without the boat on it. Can't put boat in water yet, but can't haul it around to places to work on it, kind of catch 22. Is there any way around this? Can I just take my dads empty trailer, get the weight slip, and take it to the DMV and say it was mine? Or am I screwed and should just bite the bullet and get it weighed with the boat on it?

I've never done it, but you can supposedly get a Maine registration for out of state trailers with no official weight slip

I didn't think trailers were like cars where you must immediately (at least) have temporary tags. Don't you get 60 days or something after buying a trailer to get it new tags?

I thought you had a certain amount of days after purchasing a trailer to get it weighed and tagged.

It's Illegal but could take tags off your dads trailer and put onto yours. Then take trailer to marina with scales to have it weighed. Get busted and it's gonna be hella' expensive.

Have AAA? Call a flat bed/tow truck and have them haul the trailer and boat to a marina.

Getting the trailer weighed and tagged with a boat on it is dumb.

No clue what option is less expensive.

Yea, I'm not sure what I'm going I have to do. It'd be about an extra 60$ a year if I get it weighed with the boat on it.

I think I know what you are driving at here, but you have to present an official weight slip to get the registration
