For you pet owners watching your pets get older and knowing that soon the end will come is a sad emotion.
Our family has seen the passing of four Golden (2 died of old age) and now the old guy Murphy going on 11 years. He is having difficulties walking up the stairs at night, sleeps most of the day and having problems with his hips. We took him on a short walk, we got home he drop on the front porch, falls asleep for hours from fatigue. Sad to say but the old guy seems to be getting worse quickly… maybe one more year at best. I love this old guy.

How many of you have experience the aging of your pets? How much long for your pets?

Not too long ago. Black lab named Mia. Sounds like the same thing you are going through with Murphy, bad hips in old age.

Took Mia to the vets and she got a shot which helped for about a week. Finally one day she just quit being able to walk and stand up.

Just don't wait too long and maybe even consider getting Murphy cremated.

My old Lucy Mutt is 15. She still acts like a pup at times and then sleeps her ass off other times. We got a cat she can chase around, maybe that keeps her young. She's a Terrier mix.

I have a 1-1/2 year old yelping rat dog that shits on the floor and chews up all of my shoes.

To answer the question, not soon enough.

I hear ya, Belly.
I sobbed like a child after holding the heads of the last two I had to put down. I was close to them, but the current dog is really gonna be hard on me when the time comes. The whole family loves this dog and we get that adoration from her. Hopefully we'll get another 4 or 5 years before I have to face that again.
With all the love you get out of the man-dog relationship you have to go in to it understanding the pain that will accompany the final stages of the relationship. Shit!

Have an Irish Setter that is 13 hips are going and he is having a hard time walking. He will bring his frisbee to me every now and again and I will throw it only to watch him go get it and lay on it. I give him pain meds and stuff for his arthritis but you can hardly tell if its doing any good. I am going to hate to put this one down. It never gets any easier from the first one to the last one.

Had a 15 year old black lab named Shadow. Put her down last year, seemed like she was always in pain. Like most labs, her hips were bad and she had trouble walking.
