The thread about great old TV shows made me think of how when a show is really good and a supporting character gets a lot of love, there often winds up being a spinoff show based on that character.
Often, that show is as horrible as the great show was good. Leading to it being canceled after a very short run.
Possibly the most hilariously misguided spinoff I'd ever seen was one from Married with Children back in the day. For a brief period of time, Kelly was dating a guy played by Matt LeBlanc, which was sort of a more exaggerated precursor to the "nice, but dumb, guy" role he probably perfected in Friends. And so, they attempted (according to Wiki) two different spinoff shows featuring him and his con artist dad. Both of which failed after a handful of episodes. Because, apparently, it's not a good idea to make a series based on a guy who was a character on the main show for only about three episodes when his only real attributes are: "nice guy" and "painfully stupid idiot".
Although, I guess it is kind of funny that LeBlanc would then be the Friends actor who did a spinoff of that show. I can imagine him selling that to people, "Look! It's been years since then!!! I'm a lot better at playing a nice, dumb guy now!!!! IT. WILL. WORK."
Any other spinoffs that really, really sucked? Or ones that are good, like the Jeffersons was?

Bad:
Joannie loves Chachi (probably spelled that wrong). Happy Days was great, but the spinoff sucked.
Good:
Frasier. I really did enjoy this show.

I didn't mind that show. The other spinoffs, where they were back at Bayside, were not good.GoChiefs;1436171 wrote:Worst

How is the Cleveland Show? I've never seen it. Just mentioning it, b/c I know it's a spinoff.

Joey.
Unwatchable. I wasn't the biggest fan of Friends (I know I'm in the superminority on that one) but my wife was and couldn't stand it.
Drea Matteo (spelling?) was horribly cast and looked 10 years older than she is in real life.

the weakest out of Seth Macfarlane's shows. Still ok to watch when nothing else is on.ernest_t_bass;1436277 wrote:How is the Cleveland Show? I've never seen it. Just mentioning it, b/c I know it's a spinoff.
And at this point I'd put American Dad over Family Guy. I think it has improved significantly over the years

I never liked the Cheers ones. Becker and Frasier. I do think Frasier is well written and acted, just not my taste.

"Dropping the Cosby Kids Off at the Pool" ... had lots of buildup, but ultimately it stunk.

Becker was a spinoff of cheers? That show was bad though.

Two spinoffs from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. One good-Lou Grant, one bad- Rhoda. Also bad was After M*A*S*H.
