A couple serving probation for the 2009 death of their toddler after they turned to prayer instead of a doctor could face new charges now that another son has died.Herbert and Catherine Schaible belong to a fundamentalist Christian church that believes in faith healing. They lost their 8-month-old son, Brandon, last week after he suffered from diarrhea and breathing problems for at least a week, and stopped eating. Four years ago, another son died from bacterial pneumonia.

They got probation after the death of their first son, now a second son has died, because they refuse to seek medical treatment and instead seek prayer. Guess God didn't like them too much.

Maybe prayers will keep them out of prison too.

U had a former student who needed glasses. Parents refused, and prayed instead. Eyes were still fucked.

And this shows the true power of prayer.

The exact same power as any course of action that essentially states, "I'm too lazy, dumb, etc. to do anything about this, so I'll just wait and see and hope things turn out right!"

Wife took one of her students to get their eyes checked and to get glasses, because the parents refused (they are refugees from southeast Asia who seem to hold some unfamiliar religious worldview) and insist that if a spirit wants her to see, she'll see (this is what I gathered from a second-hand account of a translation).

But at least those people come from an area where doctors are scarce, and so their religious views stem a lot from an absence of help.

These people are just nucking futs with seemingly the amount of thought put into their worldview that a child puts into his.

UGH, this stuff just pisses me off.

Isolated example doesn't really accurately depict the sum total of the whole. I know I'm not God, but if I was, I'd want to tell these people, "C'mon, guys. I've given humanity the intelligence and development to handle problems like this. I've already answered your prayer ... with fucking doctors. Go see one."

I don't know if they're lazy, but I would say blissfully ignorant is rather accurate.

I don't even think God medicine is a bad thing. Here's a verse from Chronicles 16:12
And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great; yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians. And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.
