The next OJ Mayo? This is exactly what Mayo looked like when he was a seventh-grader at Rose Hill Academy in Kentucky. The hype surrounding Mayo, who averaged more than 23 per game as a 13 and 14-year-old varsity player, approached LeBron levels, before slowly tapering off. Why are we just hearing about this kid now?

I watched a bit of Mayo, but do you remember him having the hops like this kid? I honestly don't, but like I said...I only watched him some...mostly at the state tourney.

He's not even the top rated prospect in the class for any rankings I looked at for 2016. He was right around the 10-15 range.

I'm with you (at least I think we are on the same page). I don't buy into this hype. That's kind of what I was getting at. I mean, he's got incredible hops, but you have to question the level of talent he is playing against and wonder how good he really is.

I could be wrong, but as I said, I just find the fact that he can apparently dunk like Doctor J and has never been talked about before very strange.

I cannot really remember, but Mayo definitely was explosive and had some pretty impressive dunks for his age.

He looks like a darn near grown man for a 14 year old. How in the world do some kids just mature that quick! I dont doubt he is 14, but he definately has skills and hops.

Yeah.....you should know! I was coaching at a jr high track meet at Peebles about 6 years ago and there was a 6'4-6'5 kid from Piketon running hurdles and high jumping 6'0. I went over to the coach and jokingly asked what his ringer was driving and he said believe it or not that kid was a true 8th grader....he was your defensive stud on your Final 4 team.

Are you guys saying that this kid is already better than OJ Mayo was? OJ Mayo was regarded as the best player in his class for pretty much the entire duration of his youth. And he was compared to LeBron by the time he was a freshman. I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. As stated above, despite the unbelievable hops for somebody reportedly to be 14, none of the scouting services have this guy in the top ten of his class. I find that hard to believe that this kid just turned into a full-grown man this week. So why has he not been discovered as the next big phenom while on the AAU circuit?

He looks like he's a really good player, though, so we'll see if he blows up or not.

:laugh:The fact that there is rankings for 2016 that go that deep is just plain sad. As far his highlights, well Marc Loving was doing that in middle school and early on as well. But really black people, you name your kid seventh?

Unless he was going to DOOK. You would be saying "this dude's the next lebron james. He's fucking unreal and Coach K will perfectly mold him into the greatest player ever."

Correct. Lol.

In all seriousness, we know nothing about this kid, though. He's supposedly 14. He has a long road ahead of him to be placed in the same league with guys like OJ Mayo, Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins. Again, he's very unknown and not really even on any of the major scouting services' radars.

He's not on their radars because he's 14. Give him two years.

What recruiting services are you guys looking at? None of the main three sites have even put out rankings for that year yet.

Which is why we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out to find out if he really is as good as the footage indicates.

But just because he's only 14 doesn't mean he wouldn't already be on the recruiting services' radars. Taylor King verballed to UCLA in the 8th grade and was already considered by everyone to be the No. 1 player in the country in the incoming freshman class. If this kid really is this talented -- and again, he looks as if he'll be a stud -- then he's already on the national scene on the AAU circuit.
