Apparently once he failed 10, yes TEN, drug tests he stopped keeping track. I post this here as it reflects on the program's current leadership, or lack there of?
http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/story/_/id/9163715/tyrann-mathieu-tells-nfl-team-failed-more-drug-tests-remember-report
I was actually surprised to learn that institutions aren't required to report the results of their own drug tests, but they are required to enforce their own policy.

Interestingly LSU apparently has a typical 3 strike policy, I wonder how he got to 10?

There is not enough evidence here to suggest he failed 10 drug tests. How do we know the person taking hte test wasn't on shrooms? How do we know it was even Tyrann that failed the drug test and not someone else? How do we know they even drug tested him in the first place?
Just way too many variables to even make a decision on this.

From a non-NCAA point of view, I agree. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with weed unless it is inhibiting your performance (not studying film seriously enough, missing workouts or having bad workouts). But since a school is required follow their own drug policy, this could possibly be an NCAA violation (violating the requirement to follow it's own drug policy).Hb31187;1424211 wrote:He smokes weed, who cares. But it is a couple years past, and kind of petty.
I only posted the story because it was an interesting one highlighting what appears to be a colossal failure of a drug testing program at LSU.

...as a red flag that it might signal a substance abuse problem,...hell yeah, it matters to NFL teams... Not to mention the utter stupidity of actually getting kicked out of school, losing your senior season, and costing yourself millions$$$.
Mel Kiper has him going in the 3rd round. Here's a guy who probably would have been an upper 1st round choice....1st round talent that will settle for 3rd round money.
How stupid is it to get busted multiple times, costing yourself that opportunity just to get high?
Yeah, I know...honey badger don't give a ****.

Not as stupid as it used to be under the old CBA. The money earned is in the second contract now, not the first. He'll go to a team and kill it because he's a good football player and make bank on his second contract IF he can avoid smoking. I don't see him avoiding smoking, not in the NFL environment.

Yeah, the last sentence of your post really sums up the "who cares" question asked earlier. IF a guy has failed test after test after test, a team wouldn't want to put that much $$$ into them because of a history like this. You get busted that many times in college, you'll have to prove yourself for a hell of a long time in the NFL because with the cash and added freedom there (as well as the added pressure of having to justify a contract to a front office/coaching staff), if you're hitting the pipe regularly then...you'll really be doing it now.lhslep134;1426427 wrote:Not as stupid as it used to be under the old CBA.
