almost zero diff imo...its just fancy labeling by manufacturers to charge more. very subtle differences in dark/blues and blacks.

Isn't LED supposed to use less power?

There was a thread here a while ago on the differences between different types of tvs. I tried to search for it but apparently LED and LCD aren't long enough to be used as search terms.

Search for fluorescent backlit LCD vs LED backlit LCD. You should get more information from that search than you want/need.

LED backlit displays are LCDs but not all LCDs are LED or something like that.

I have this:

reat all around picture and superb for sports.
I hate that splotchy look a lot of LCD sets give to a football field when the camera follows the action.
None of that with this set - probably has more to do with plasma over LCD rather than the brand but Panasonic has a very good rep for the quality of their plasma sets. The comment you'll see from many about plasma screens washing out in too much light is no issue with this set and my TV room is very well lit in daylight as well as at night.

Recently purchased a 60" VIZIO LED and I LOVE it! Unfortunately, I don't have an LCD next to it to compare the two pictures.

Also, my guess is that there is enough control via the settings that you could make either look good.

I tend to agree, depending on the ambient light, that Plasma is the way to go for the best color reproduction. However, more panel manufacturers are moving away from this technology. Pioneer used to make one of the best TVs (plasma) but their market and profits started to shrink once people got on the LCD bandwagon, so Pioneer got out of the panel business. I have a LG plasma that has been great for years.

also depends on what your tv uses are...do you primarily just watch tv/movies? will there be gaming?

I have one of each....40" LCD and 46" LED.

FAR prefer the LED.

Value-wise, plasmas are still the best picture for the price. People claim LED/LCD are better for brighter rooms, but I don't think it's that noticeable (they all suck in direct sunlight, obviously).

Yes. Whatever you buy, check out cnet, or similar sites, for suggestions on how to tweak your settings for the best picture. Well worth the little effort it takes not to be watching a sub-par picture!

I have a 720p Plasma and it's been good to me. The contrast ratio is almost too good. Makes playing dark video games challenging.
