I know this is quite possibly the worst place ever to seek medical advice but.... how long after surgery till I can consume alcohol again? I didn't want to ask my surgeon because I'm underage (I know I'm a badass) and I couldn't seem to find anything on the net... I had hand surgery on Monday if that makes a difference... any idea?

I'd say if you are on medication then I'd lay off the alcohol for awhile. If you are not, then it'd be okay to consume it whenever you feel up to it. However, even though you are underage, you should feel comfortable asking him even if he'll frown upon it.

Disclaimer: I am no doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

I wouldn't recommend it, especially since they'll probably give you a decently strong painkiller for the post-op.

Just read the labels on any meds they have you taking. DON'T mix drinking with painkillers (or Tylenol), especially if your liver is young and tender - that's what killed a lot of rock stars.

Did alcohol have anything to do with the NEED for hand surgery? :)

They prescribed vicodin which obviously I'm not going to drink while im taking that lol...

And no catfood my surgery was not the result of a drunken bar fight or anything of that nature... I broke my pinky playing basketball in my driveway 8 months ago... 2 surgeries down and 1 to go and I'll have a fully functional right pinky finger again.... this has been a disaster. no sports, typing is extremely difficult, can barely play video games...Good books and brew are my only forms of entertainment at the moment...

Alcohol can also affect the anti-biotics (if they gave you any).

I had ACL surgery and my neighbor brought me a 12 pack to cheer me up, so anyways 2 days after my surgery i was still in pain so i took some perks the dr prescribed me and decided to drink a few beers while the Final Four was on. I made it about 3/4th through the first game and woke up twelve hours later. Best night of sleep ever.

Had Hernia surgery on a Friday and went out drinking with my friends the next night. It only took a couple of beers and I was gone due to all the pain meds I was on.

If there's a time when one shouldn't drink, I haven't heard of it.

Dude did say he was underage, right? But he contradicted himself? Underage, yet wanting a beer AND he reads books? This smells of a set up!!

His parent will be posting on here tomorrow about how this forum promotes underage drinking...while also allowing the discussion of boobs and the usage of cussing...and a place where kids can hook up with teachers.

Eh, next time just ask the doctor. He/she probably won't care and even if he/she does, he/she won't tell anyone .. I mean, unless you're like 12 years old. In which case, mtrulz has been a bad influence on you.
