I was reading this and as an avid kayak'er either he is the dumbest person alive or he planned to kill this girl and possibly himself or kidnap.

I am pretty sure that dude went to my high school.

Very sad news no matter what happened. I do hope she is somehow still alive, but we will see.

"...Authorities say the water was around 39 degrees at the time...."

Yeah, nothing real smart about taking a 12 year old kayaking in 39 degree water.

If there were universal background checks on kayaks this never would have happened. But seriously, what a moron. WTF was the point of going out in a kayak in 39º water and no life jackets unless you had a death wish?

Actually, he had custody of his daughter and she lived with him and his fiance', so there goes the kidnapping theory. He's just a moron, plain and simple.

This is another reason kayaks should be outlawed. There is no reason for kayaks to be in the hands of people. We need stiffer kayak laws.

I'll give this guy the nod over the redneck building a bunker behind his trailer. 20x20 and 24-ft deep, a wall collapsed killing two boys.

When kayaks are outlawed only outlaws will have kayaks...and most likely a few idiots too.

this combined with the guy who was letting his kids play in the bunker he was building in his backyard and it caved in on them makes for two darwin awards in one week. too bad it wasnt just the adults who died instead of some kids

No one really "needs" a kayak. Get rid of them.

So, two incidents leading to the deaths of three children. While only one of the two idiot adults whose ideas these were died (presumably). There is major-league injustice in that.
