One of my favorites. You knew it would be great but, damn. Unreal to think about, especially if you are younger like me and were not around to see it. Probably will never see anything like it again.

I thought Coach K had a great insight - said that was the college game at its best in that day. A number of future NBA all-time greats playing, but what was more is they still played great fundamental basketball back then...and the biggest thing was everyone stayed their 4-5 years.

Agreed, although the talent has arguably become better - the team cohesion was stronger in the 80's and probably peaked in the mid 90's before the one and done (or if at all when Kobe, Garnett, etc. simply didn't play college basketball) era.
The individuals may be better now, growing a team then was much more fun to watch IMO.

Yeah, back then having a veteran team meant something. On the other hand - and I don't know if it's because they did something with scholarships - but the number of quality programs has never been higher. I think the college game today has more parity - the downside of that is there aren't as many "upsets", or maybe what I'm saying is today's upsets aren't really upsets by past standards.Manhattan Buckeye;1408204 wrote: The individuals may be better now, growing a team then was much more fun to watch IMO.
Can you imagine if Kobe and Lebron had played 4 years of college ball?

Would be amazing.....hard to believe Tim Duncan did it. He's probably the last of the superstars that stayed 4 years.

I didn't watch it, but ESPN toots the Jimmy V horn a bit too hard.
He got sick and he died. That happens every day.

It doesn't happen every day that a man like Jimmy V rises to the occasion and inspires people weeks before his death.dlazz;1408258 wrote:I didn't watch it, but ESPN toots the Jimmy V horn a bit too hard.

You are right. He just got sick and died. We shouldn't be discussing his story at all. Thanks for the great insight on the thread. :rolleyes:dlazz;1408258 wrote:I didn't watch it, but ESPN toots the Jimmy V horn a bit too hard.

His story is no more special than the millions of others who have also died from cancer. So what if he raised awareness?
ESPN is just patting themselves on the back because he "inspired" people on their network. Spielman is guilty of the same thing.

That's a pretty awful view on life you have there. You must be pleasant to hang around.dlazz;1408269 wrote:His story is no more special than the millions of others who have also died from cancer. So what if he raised awareness?

Generally, you've always been a douche on this site. But to try and argue what you are on this thread is just laughable. 100's of millions of dollars donated to cancer research. Not everyone who "gets sick and dies" can lay claim to that.dlazz;1408272 wrote:You're just now realizing this?

So you're implying if Jimmy V weren't around, that money wouldn't have been donated anyway? Cancer is not a new thing.DeyDurkie5;1408275 wrote:100's of millions of dollars donated to cancer research.

Of course it isn't. But a 47 year old guy that coached a national championship team going out the way he did was ballsy.

Now you're comparing me to a guy who couldn't close a deal with a milf. Watch yourself.
Also, I have an actual college degree and not a dregree.

I didn't compare you to darby. I gave you a scale. He is/was the highest level of emo on this site.dlazz;1408285 wrote:Now you're comparing me to a guy who couldn't close a deal with a milf. Watch yourself.

I wouldn't consider myself emo. I am fairly satisfied with my life and unhappy with my job. (as most people tend to be)

Speaking of, whatever happened to darby? Did he pretty much disappear after that thread ruined him? Also, buy/sell he still reads the site without posting.
IB4 someone says "if you want to talk about darby, please start a new thread about him" -- which I won't do, because he sucked.

I'd venture a guess to say he is not coming back to this site. This guess is based off his years of just tuuurible tuurible posting.friendfromlowry;1408301 wrote:Speaking of, whatever happened to darby? Did he pretty much disappear after that thread ruined him? Jimmy V was a notorious womanizer and rarely ever saw his wife and two daughters. When he was diagnosed with cancer all of a fkn sudden he's a saint. Another media manufactured "hero". He himself admitted in the last months of his life what a complete scumbag and asshole he'd been to his own family for years. But he pulls the old "Ask for Forgiveness" card out of the Catholic deck and everybody's balling their eyes out. FK U Jimmy V...aint buyin the BS.
