The media has been telling us since this summer Farve would fail
Who said that?
I would say many had grown tired of his act when he un-retired again, but I believe most of them included in their opinions: "if he can still play, he should."
Most of the stories and discussion pre-season about Favre touched only briefly about how he is a diva - most of the discussion was about IF he could still play. There was very little talk about how Favre was holding an entire organization hostage, pissing in the face of Packers fans, and upsetting the hierarchy of an entire football team.
There was some criticism, but in general, in my opinion, he got a HUGE pass. What he did this off-season was worse than anything he ever did in Green Bay or New York.
Most in the media questioned if it would work out for in his favor, especially considering his past failings late in the season, but most took the position that Minnesota, with their strong D and outstanding running game, was the best possible situation for Favre - as long as he reigned in the gun-slinger act a bit.
Most, in my opinion, were eager to see how it played out. Very few, if any, predicted an outright failure.

Again I ask you, who?
There are quite a few former players who now work in the media criticizing Favre, but they are disparaging Childress and the Minnesota organization as much, if not more than they are Favre.
And, everything I've heard and read, there are a whole lot of Favre apologists who claim that "this is what you get with Favre. You had to know that. It's Minnesota's own fault."
I don't think anyone necessarily agrees with Favre's actions, but no one is condemning him for it. Most have taken the approach of "he is what he is."
And comparing this story to the Michael Vick story is just silly. There was much more heated discussion, debate, and criticism going on after the NE 4th and 2 fiasco. Hell, there was more coverage about Dallas' December swoon.
Brett Favre has been getting a pass from the media for years, and he's getting one right now too.
