ESPN has a link to a story about a transgender male to female fighting in the female MMA bracket of a tournament.

To me this is just going to far. I think your genetics (not your gender identity) should determine which set of people you compete against in sports.

That's an even trickier subject as I believe she was either a hermaphrodite. Basically with her she appeared to be a female her whole life, she identified herself as a female, but she actually had testes that did not descend and she had significantly more testosterone than any women competitors would have, or that was the leaked results. But the official results were never revealed.

I am sympathetic to a certain extent as she did not know about her medical situation. But, if she does indeed have more testosterone in her body than what would be considered the acceptable spectrum for female athletes, then she should not be allowed to compete with women. It's an unfair advantage.

But the regulating bodies must have deemed that she was within the appropriate standards.

I think we should have separate leagues for blacks and whites. Separate but equal.

I'll play devil's advocate.

After a certain amount of hormonal changes, what you were born as becomes completely irrelevant.

The problem here is perception about a born male competing as a female, and whether it's a real advantage. After a complete gender switch and shift of hormones, it really isn't.

You wouldn't hear the same thing about a female-to-male unless that person was dominating the event. If it was just a typical competitor, nobody would think twice.

That was the first thought that came to my mind. Saw an interview with RGIII outside the espys and I was wondering who the dude was standing next to him. Looked like a guy, dressed like a guy, and sounded like a guy when they spoke to him.

...and then i fell off my chair when they said it was a woman
