Take a moment tomorrow and give your mom and dad a call.

Some of you know 5 weeks ago my father-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.....he passed with my wife and I there at the hospital only 4 days later.......this past Wednesday her mom was rushed to the hospital and was overwhelmed with the exact same cancer spread throughout her body.....today just 5 days later she also passed away.

Take a few and give the folks a call.

Prayers for you and your family.

Just called and woke the folks up to tell them. They were a little mad but after I explained they understood.

My sympathies, Ironman.

Not a day goes by that I don't wish I could still pick up the phone and call my mom and dad. If you are lucky enough to still have yours, don't take that blessing for granted.

Losing someone is such a sobering moment. We laugh and poke fun at each other so often on here, but I hope we never do forget that there are indeed human beings on the other end of those screen names.

Ironman, I can't imagine what you and your wife are experiencing right now, and I'm not going to pretend I can. All I can tell you is that I will pray for comfort for your family and yourself this evening. You may believe in a god of some type. You may not. Either way, I hope the God that I am talking to tonight will indeed bring you and yours some level of comfort in a time in which it sounds like you and your family could use it.

Since my dad passed away a few years ago I learned one thing. That is to unless it is physically impossible to call or visit my mother daily. Often times are calls are very short and usually more of a checking in type of thing but I know we both appreciate talking or visiting each other daily. I think since my father has passed I've only missed a few days and those were when I was on vacation out of the country and didn't have a phone assesiable to me.

Sorry to hear about your in-laws Ironman. You both, and as others here have stated, have been lucky to have relationships with your parents/in-laws that you want to foster and keep strong.

Its a shame that its not that way for some. My dad died when I was 15 and it sucked not having a dad to go to during my HS and young adult years. I still remember being pissed at him for dying because I knew I was now stuck with mom.

A friend recently nailed it when describing her... "she's just a nasty old woman". My kids, (both in their early 20's), don't want to have anything to do with her, and its not because of what I have said to them. They formed their opinion about her all on their own. I talk/associate with her only on an as needed basis.

Wow. That's terrible Ironman. Thoughts & prayers.

What are the odds/chances they are diagnosed with the exact same cancer?! Makes you think there might have been something wrong at their residence... have you and your wife looked into it?

Her dad smoked for 50+ years with her by his side for almost 49 of them. The last 15 years it was confined in a single wide trailer and they both pretty much were always in the living room. I bought two different air purifiers and he would go periods of time where he would smoke out on the deck.....but the place was overloaded with tar thick on the walls. After he passed I went and and scrubbed the walls through the whole place and it looked like I painted and dark tan wall into an off white one.

No thanks, I'm good.

My dad and I have a silent agreement where we only call if we need something from one another.
