Last night I downloaded the new Smithsonian ipad app called America's Presidents. It was $4.99 but I had a ton of itunes gift card money left from Christmas so I figured it was worth a shot. Pretty cool app.
Anyway, after playing around with it for a while I decided I wanted to start reading biographies of each president. The app had some general info about each president but I would like to learn more about each president, their accomplishments, shortcomings, etc. I'd like to start by reading one biography for each president, in order.
If you've got a recommendation for a biography post it. Washington is my top priority but I'll take any recommendations and start a list.

Bolded part was necessary. Andrew Jackson was crazy. He talked to mice in the white house. I read a book on him some time ago, see if I can find it again to give you the title.justincredible;1392146 wrote:Last night I downloaded the new Smithsonian ipad app called America's Presidents. Not a president, but I really enjoyed a biography on Ben Franklin. (I don't have the exact title with me at the moment)

This one has good reviews on Amazon.
I can't imagine you'll want to read the biography of William Henry Harrison.

#2 - John Adams - "John Adams" by David McCullough. Great book in the same vein as "1776" by McCullough. He also wrote "Truman" but I haven't read that one.
Side note... I got "Killing Lincoln" and "Killing Kennedy" by Bill O'Reilly for Christmas. Both are outstanding books and must reads if you can get past who the author is.

I've read:
"John Adams" by David McCullough. Excellent book.
"Destiny of the Republic" by Candice Millard. About James Garfield and his assassination. The back story on Garfield is very good as he was truly and amazing man.
"Team of Rivals" about Lincoln. Makes you realize why Lincoln was the amazing man he was.

Andrew Jackson shut down the 2nd Bank of the United States, which after that bubble burst, allowed the most successful, even if not perfect, banking era in the history of this country that lasted (except for during the Civil War period) up to the creation of the Federal Reserve by Congress and the big bankers in 1913.

I believe Van Buren was one of the last Libertarian-ish presidents we had. He and Jackson. I could be wrong there but I believe that was mentioned early in the Rothbard book I am reading now.
