I actually thought the same thought. I think it's a legitimate opinion and it wasn't written in a way that is excessively inflammatory.
One of the defenses I've heard over the years of automotive racing is that it requires great physical condition (because of the supposed strain) on the drivers parts and the drivers are in great shape.
I think Danica doing so well possibly diminishes that argument. Not that she isn't in good shape, but the fact that she posted the best time and has a shot to win suggests that this "sport" really isn't that dependent on the physical conditioning of drivers.
I think that Nascar is definitely an activity that requires strategy and it's a race providing entertainment. But I don't think it's a sport in the sense that physical conditioning and being one of the best out there as far as physical conditioning provides an advantage.
I've always thought that for something to be a "sport" one of the different aspects I think it should require is the idea of "hustle." That is trying harder or pushing yourself harder physically will give an advantage. You can't exactly "hustle" in a car, you can only push the gas or turn the wheel so hard.
But that's just my opinion.

Cool, but the thread isn't another sport or not debate.

Eh, it was relevant as it incorporated the recent sporting news. It's not like his post was completely out of no where.GoChiefs;1391613 wrote:Cool, but the thread isn't another sport or not debate.

One should probably consider who is posting. I doubt anyone could imagine Tiernan posting in ANY topic with the interest of providing thought-provoking conversation about gender roles and athleticism. Or providing anything other than starting another game of "watch the old drunk guy be a social retard again!"

He does this every NASCAR thread, then said jumps in, and they go back and forth for 2 pages.

Quote from Danica Patrick: "She deserves some credit. The car deserves more."
I just saw that little quote and thought it was interesting.
And that just kind of shows how I feel about this and I think what Tiernan was getting at. Yes, these people do possess a skill that helps them excel in this competition. But I don't think it's a sport. I'm not knocking the fact that people enjoy it or it's not exciting competition (it's just not for me). But I don't think it's a sport. She Deserves some credit. The car deserves more.
