Can we just wipe them off the planet? Before they do it to someone else

They'll accidentally do it to themselves before they do it to anyone else.

Perfect timing for Obama to talk about the U.S. making huge cuts in our nuclear arms tonight in the SOTU address.

The only ones they could do it to would be South Korea. And they aren't stupid enough to piss off their one major ally (China) to do it. Them getting into a major armed conflict with anyone would cut off their meal ticket pretty quickly and assure their destruction, their leaders know it.

What's an "artificial earthquake?"

An earthquake caused by something man-made, rather than naturally-occurring earth movements.SnotBubbles;1387405 wrote:What's an "artificial earthquake?"

I don't understand how that country as a whole has not crumbled yet.

We have over 5,000, cutting to 1,100 with some 500 in reserve is still enough.TedSheckler;1387396 wrote:Perfect timing for Obama to talk about the U.S. making huge cuts in our nuclear arms tonight in the SOTU address.
And obviously, what has been the policies the last 30 years hasn't worked.
The test was actually long forecast as satellites images caught the Norks preparing the shafts for a test. It was all a matter of when.
Looks like also it was a success of a smaller nuke, still no where near the size to put on a missile.

And the country falling apart would be one of the greatest humanitarian crisis in the last 50 years.

This may be a stupid question, but how do they not nuke themselves when they do these tests? We did the tests way out in the desert and on Islands where nobody was around I think. Are they just doing them far enough under ground?ptown_trojans_1;1387434 wrote:The test was actually long forecast as satellites images caught the Norks preparing the shafts for a test.

Yeah, you bury it deep in the ground, and then design the mineshaft in the shape of a fishook.FatHobbit;1387459 wrote:This may be a stupid question, but how do they not nuke themselves when they do these tests? You then add in "blast doors" to help slow down the gas. You put enough of them up, and make the decision of the shaft in a way that does not allow gases to escape.
A nerdy article on the issue:
http://thebulletin.org/web-edition/features/contemplating-third-nuclear-test-north-korea
and a picture of what may be one of the test shafts:

We did back in the day when we moved testing underground after 1963.

Millions in complete famine, the South and China would get millions of refuges. Millions could die as the regime falls. This would lead to instability in South Korea as well as in China, and would lead to both economies taking a massive hit.like_that;1387516 wrote:N. As screwed up as things are now, things are "stable"
