I agree with this post, but I reported it as well. Should be in the basement.

Very true. Perhaps you should save your Karen-trolling for the basement, Ernest. Or have the choice taken from you...

I'm sure Notre Dame wanted to keep it quiet as long as nobody figured out the truth. That's the point. At best, they sat on the news of a scandal involving their most high-profile player and likely would've never admitted to it unless called out on it.

One dude on that show thought that he was actually involved with Kari Ann Peniche (who was a Miss USA Teen winner, model, and was on Celebrity Rehab and Celebrity Sex Rehap on VH1). It turned out to be a girl that the guy knew running a fake profile...but it was done to even fool the guy that did the Catfish documentary.

Long story short...there's a lot of stupid people out there that fall for this sort of thing. If you don't believe that people could be that stupid, you either don't want to believe that people can be complete morons, or you are extremely naive.
The people on the show play along for the sake of the show.

Over the last hour or so, both Mark Packer on CSN 91 Sirius and Billy Cunningham on 700WLW have alluded to the possibility of an "alternative lifestyle" being the reason Te'o either orchestrated or went along with this hoax. They stopped short of going any further than this, but the inplication was there.

no not yet. a few people reported that Jeremy Schapp was supposed to do the interview, but ESPN says no interview was set up. ESPN and other outlets are trying to get an interview set up.

If it were true, it would look TERRIBLE for Notre Dame and the LDS. It would stand against everything.

With that said, and this is a different debate entirely, but if it turned out Manti Te'o was openly gay, the guy would literally print money the rest of his life regardless of whether he has any NFL career at all.

I happen to believe in 2013 people are more than willing for a current player in a major US sport to come out as openly gay and still have a career. Combine that with his talent, it might just be the perfect storm.

Outside of the initial shock and stress over coming clean, the ones who would look bad and be conflicted would be Notre Dame and LDS.

I just had this conversation with a guy in my office about someone coming out in a major sport, and we both agreed if there ever was a time, it is now. Reps.

The one thing that ND/Te'o's people (whoever is to blame) did for sure screw up is the dissemination of this story from a PR perspective. It seems that they were having internal debates and sat on it. One of the most important things about information, is you want to control the manner and the initial "story" when it comes out.

By sitting on the information they lost the opportunity and that's why there is so much conjecture and different theories flying around at the moment.

Yep, I agree. If it was NFL football it would be an even bigger story.

Media coverage, endorsements, movie deals, TV interviews, book deals, etc...whoever is the first will be a rich, rich man. The green will only be more if he's a legit talent. Te'o already has the notoriety and recognition and could easily be a quality football player in the pros.

I think the issue would be a lot more inside the locker room than outside.
