I'm actually starting to believe the unbelievable story that Manti had no idea she wasn't real. Still absolutely boggles my mind how he could get that far with never meeting her and not trying harder to meet her and not realizing it all didn't make sense. It honestly just blows my mind.

Occam's Razor. Where did he send the flowers for her funeral? The unbelievable story makes him seem more like a nutcase.

no doubt, extremely gullible at absolute best. I don't even know for certain that it all adds up to him not being involved. Those tweets make it seem as if he weren't, but until we hear more about it very few people know whether he had a part in it and I guarantee none of them are members of Ohio Chatter.

As others have said, if he was a part of it he deserves every bit of slander and ridicule he gets. If he wasn't, he'll take a lot of shit for being gullible/stupid, which would be warranted, but I think everyone who knows him or is a fan would take that trade off no doubt. I think Swarbrick said Te'o was the perfect mark for something like this because he trusts people and gets emotionally involved with people so easily. If that proves to be the case, I'd imagine he will have to proceed with things a little differently, which is sad.

not saying its true, because there has been nothing out there suggesting it other than Swarbrick saying there were stories for every part of the hoax, but the one guy said to be involved was involved with a church. could have been delivered there or something. who knows.

I know. I've sent flowers to funerals. You don't just make it up. You have to use a credit card and the flower people have to deliver. Unless this "Twitter" person set up a fake funeral, made up a fake company to accept a credit card then Te'o is at least lying about that.

LOL. Makes sense considering I left the possibility of both options open in my response.

I actually feel a bit bad for the guy. The dude that could be in trouble is Swarbrick. He looked like an idiot at the presser. Either the person "duping" him committed multiple felonies, admitted to said multiple felonies and apparently had no better time on their hands other than to commit multiple felonies, or we believe the obvious. It was a lie that spun out of control.

I get why he lied to an extent though.

"I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriend that passed away."

"Thanks, she was a great girl."

"Did you get to see her often being so far apart?"

"Oh no, we've never met."

That wouldn't exactly sound normal either.

By next week he'll be at a podium crying and admitting to everyone he was in on it all along. Either that or it's a huge cover up for him being gay.

@hansenNDInsider: For those wanting to see the Oct 12 Te'o article, it was not pulled. In fact, we reposted it on our site tonight: http://t.co/OaSsShm4 (1/2)

@hansenNDInsider: (2/2) Our articles automatically go to paid archives after a month online. So unless you can find a back door .. now you don't need one.

This entire thing was done for publicity.

Lets say nobody was "in on it" and everyone was a "victim?"

Many people along the way, from when the story was first reported until just a few weeks ago, were guilty and fabricating stuff for their own benefit. This is the only explanation for Manti's statements about meeting her, sending the flowers, crying to teammates over the phone when he learned of her death, etc. The same goes for his father stating she visited Hawaii during the summer, all of his acquaintances who called her a "dear friend" and anyone who really referenced the relationship.

As I said, if this is the case, nobody is to "blame", but whoever perpetuated the whole thing should be recognized for absolutely pulling the wool over the eyes over everyone.

I don't know if "idiot" is the right word, but he sure didn't come off as very convincing, and the crying bit was way over the top. That alone made me more cynical than anything--it just didn't appear sincere, IMO.

Good point, and the whole thing snowballed out of control and nobody knew how to stop it. However, IMO, the presser last night did nothing to help his cause-maybe Manti's presser will shed a different light on this mess.
