We all know that these so called reality shows are scripted and such.

Had read about some of the actors they hired to come in and other stuff and also about an item on one of last nights eps.

Some guy wanted to pawn his Flax Bow. WHen he came to pick it up however later and pay off his loan/pawn you could easily tell that it wasnt the same item that he had brought it!
Also read other odd things about the show that make it seem more and more fake.

Does/would that change your viewing habits knowing the show is bs? I still think some of the stuff is interesting and ya can learn some things...but it def has lost alot of its luster because it is so fake.

The vast majority of things on Tv are "BS". If it entertains you they have accomplished their goal. This show isn't any different.

Oh I know its scripted...just thought it was hilarious that they tried to pull that one over on the viewers by giving back a totally diff item than what the guy brought in

I've only seen it once and after watching the negotiating tactics employed by both sides, I could easily tell neither was sincere and it was all for show. I guess that's why I make the big bucks.

It's a decent show for what it is. Like Sleeper said, the negotiating tactics are outrageous. They just tell everyone oh this will take me forever to sell blah blah blah ill give you 1/3 of whatever we were just told it was worth. Cash money $100 bills!!!!!!!!!

It's no different than any other show or movie when a background prop is gone from one scene after a camera cut...or it's moved after a cut and not put back in the proper place.

I like when the person grossly underestimates the value, and because he's on tv Rick has to be honest with giving a "fair" price. You know deep down he's kicking himself because if the cameras weren't there he'd fleece the guy even more than usual.

Also, judging from the size of the display room vs. the warehouse behind it would seem that the majority of their business is actually pawns (a.k.a cash loan biz).

I still have a tough time believing that they buy and sell many high-priced collectors items. Guns and a few things I could see, but if I was a collector shelling out $10k for something I'd probably never buy in a pawn shop, and certainly not without a certificate of authentication. Maybe they have that, but some of the apparent hacks they have posing as pseudo experts I'd expect to be easily fooled by good fakes. Although, to be fair, most fakes they'd seem to run across are mass-produced or simply replicas that may not require much skill to spot.

Yeah..I have seen a website that has alot of movie/show screwups like that.
Thing is.....the difference though here is that this guy supposedly brought in one item for pawn......and when he came to pick it up it cleary was a different version of iT!!!!

I don't know...I guess I don't find it as funny. I'm actually surprised it took this long for something like this to happen. "Reality Shows" are super low budget. That's why TV is going that way. It doesn't take much of a crew to film, and the "actors" aren't real actors so they'll work cheaper. When you cut corners and don't spend the money...stuff like this is bound to happen.

It may have been in one of the earlier seasons....Hell I dont know. They dont show much of the pawn stuff and funny they messed up one of the few they actually show!

Think I saw on one of their trivia questions that close to 70% of their business is pawning but they rarely show it.....not as interesting I guess.

Now...Hardcore Pawn...those idiots on that show, the workers and customers, I think just show up and make a scene so they can get on TV. That show is unwatchable with all the yelling, screaming and confrontations

The wife had an antique shop for a number of years. 1/3 of retail, maybe a tad more, is what could be paid for merchandise that allows for paying overhead (rent, utilities, employees, etc.) and leaves a little bit of profit.

...I watched Harcore Pawn the other night & saw some woman (seemed like a crack addict) come in with a POS printer (no box, no instructions, nothing) and wanted $ 30.00. When the guy behind the counter said they weren't intested, the woman starts ranting " No you gonna give me $ 30.00"
Enter Les the owner: "What's the problemn"?
Woman " You gonna give me $ 30.00 for this printer"
Les to Security gorilla: "Get her & POS printer out of here"

The printer smashes on the floor & the security guy moves her in the parking lot where she continues to scream.

It's all scripted, but I find this show more laughable than Pawn Stars!

I was kidding dude!

My stepdaughter got into that show a few months ago and she swore up and down how it was real life, that the cameras just followed them around and they acted like they would just in rea life and I couldnt stop laughing. She got mad and embarrassed but I think after she thought about it more she realized how fake it was!

Damnit...you're probably right.

But it is totally plausible. One would think with the internet these days that people wouldn't pawn something with absolutely no idea what it's worth, but that's giving people too much credit.
