Thinking about driving up to Detroit for the car show this weekend. I'll need to rent a car and Hertz has some pretty good deals on weekend rates for their normal fleet.

Checked the weather, and it doesn't look like snow in the immediate forecast, so I thought about renting a camaro or something else fun. Never driven one, and I hardly ever rent cars so I figured I'd try to get one for this weekend. Anybody have any experience renting a sports car during winter months? You'd think they'd be cheaper because no one wants them around this time of year, no?

They're probably more expensive because people are more likely to put them in a ditch in the winter.

Just get a Civic and be done with it.

It's too bad you can't rent a life. Maybe a new business idea?

Been going to this show for years. Never had a problem. We just pay to park in one of the Cobo center lots

Detroit is just like any other city. It has it's bad and good. It all depends on where you're at.

Detroit has a bad reputation but in reality is not bad at all. I've been there many times to visit the casinos and also for the final four. I've been to about 5 final fours now and can honestly say Detroit was my favorite besides New Orleans. The people in the city were great and we felt safe everywhere we went (we walked almost everywhere in the downtown area).

As for renting a car I know the winter you can usually get better deals because there are less people renting for vacations.

The v6 'stang is a pretty common rental car. Or is Hertz one of the GT v8's?

I own a 2010 Camaro and I'd highly recommend it. Had you mentioned it was going to snow, I would've steered you away from it as it's not very good in snow. The vehicle does have a few annoying blind spots though.

That's what my friend thinks as well (he works for Enterprise). That's what I'm banking on. It's winter, they're probably renting out more full sizes and SUVs, so maybe they'll let a Camaro go for the price of a full size or a little higher.

I'm renting through Hertz, so I'm assuming it's the GT.

I drive an '09 Stang as my DD and I've never had issues in the winter. Drove it during the "blizzard" back in late december.

Ended up renting a litte SUV instead. They didn't have any performance vehicles on site.
