Baseball writers rejected the steroid era 'tainted' players by a large margin. Bonds, Clemens, Sosa....despite their huge numbers only received about 40% of the votes necessary for election. The man who first broke Babe's long standing HR record, Mark McGuire, received even less, this on his seventh try, the lowest he's gotten so far.
Craig Biggio was the closest...getting just shy of 69% ...38 votes short of election. Jack Morris was second, just a few votes behind. It was Morris' 14th try...he will have just one more year left of eligibility. Mike Piazza was third.
Cleveland Indians fans will be disappointed that hometown favorites Kenny Lofton and Sandy Alomar Jr. were mentioned on only about 3% of the ballots...leaving them short of the 5% required to stay on next year's ballot.
