In other news, Robinson Cano has dumped Scott Boras as his agent and is now represented by Jay Z.
Consider he is in line for a monster $120+ million extension this off-season it is a huge blow to Boras as he loves doing those monster deals.
Brian Cashman says they made Cano a "significant" offer this off-season which Boras rejected, as he usually has his clients play it out to hit the market.
Wonder if that has anything to do with the change?
At some point one has to ask what dollar amount is just not worth it.
Last year I think I counted 65 pitchers who started 30+ games, more than 2/team on average. 55 of them won double digits and only 4 won 20-21 games. The contention could be that any given starter in a certain slot in the rotation is going to win 12-14 games. Granted, there are ND's that factor in as well. It even isnt as easy as asking how much those 6-8 win difference are worth. If you dont sign a Kershaw to a 120million plus deal then you do have the $$ for a number of other players. One could say a good pitcher who would win 14/season, and position players that also help you wn more as well.
I am not opposed to the best players getting the best contracts, but at some point one has to ask at what point does it not become worth it?
Even if Votto hits 30HR and drives in 110 a season is he worth the 20 million plus when you can find a number of players who would hit 20/80? Yeah, votto is clutch as can be, the face of a franchise and someone who could be in the middle of a great team for a long time but I said the same thing when Arod signed.
Something has got to give.
