...The price on both are about the same, but personal preference is for the Remington 870 and that's only because I've had great reliablity from my past Remington guns. I've never owned a Mossberg but I'm sure it is a great firearm.

Why a pump act and not automatic?</SPAN>

Both are tactical type weapons and the specification are very close, price same/ same.
R 870 is newer but the history of performance is without question</SPAN>
M 590 is never a bad weapon and they make good quality weapons </SPAN>

If I was to buy one or the other I would be more incline to go with the R 870 </SPAN>
I like the looks and for me it seems it would be a more comfortable weapon to shoot. </SPAN>

I been look at a getting my wife a tactical shotgun but I want a 16 gauge for her &#8230; </SPAN>
Moosberg has a 20 gauge SA-20 that looks good and an automatic </SPAN>

I have an 870 and it's great. I've never owned a Mossberg. (My dad is anti Mossberg because he was involved in a hunting accident where a shotgun went off by accident.)

well i mean without changing the barrel on them. I guess if you're going to hunt something 30 yards away they're fine.

I was looking at the 870 last year then went with a Benelli SuperNova...my brother the Marine was with me and talked me into it, it sits in my gun safe. Sweet gun, just never use it, maybe I'll start hunting someday.

That was the gun's fault?

possibly a safety malfunction, but not sure I would bet on it.

I would go with a winchester 1300. I have 3. Love that gun. Best pump ever made in my opinion.

Of those 2 Remington has a better reputation.

Saiga 12K is nice, as well. With a bump-action trigger kit and a little practice, you can get almost the same effect as an AA-12 without the mess of paperwork associated with owning a fully automatic firearm.

It was a combination of gun malfunction and stupidity on my dad's part. A buddy borrowed my dad's mosberg bolt action. They unloaded their guns and crossed a fence. When they were reloading my dad stepped in front of his friend when he shut the bolt and the gun went off.

I don't blame mossberg at all but I grew up with a little bit of bias. (I would buy one, but I already have a nice remington 870 so...)

The old Remington 660's had a full recall because the safety wouldn't engage itself and would drop the hammer when you slammed the bolt shut.

The newer 700's still have reports of this. So much so that there have been full on media investigations on them.

Zwick, do you have any interest in switching barrels? Do you prefer a trigger guard safety or a tang safety?

Probably not. Only reason I would is to go hunting with my buddies.

I guess I don't really have a preference. I'm left handed if that makes a difference.
