Interesting that they might break from the Big East and form their own conference.

DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova

Maybe these schools would join:

Xavier, Saint Louis, Dayton, Creighton, Gonzaga and possibly Saint Mary's

IMO they need to play in a separate division in general. Private schools have an unfair advantage over public schools don't they?

would be a fun basketball conference although i really don't like the idea of a national conference. new york to chicagoland is good enough

Xavier, Dayton for sure make sense, St. Louis & Creighton would stretch the borders. Gonzaga & St. Mary's not so much.

Apparently the 7 have agreed to leave the Big East.

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal is reporting that Xavier and Butler will leave the A10 for the new conference with these schools. I'm sure Dayton will follow suit. That puts the conference up to 10 already.

Fuck Temple. I could also see the conference going with St. Bonaventure, Fordham, and Duquesne.

In fact, I dont think Nova would want any of the other Philly schools to join. Then again, if they dont get X/Butler/Dayton/etc they may not have a choice.

I imagine a vote to disband the Big East is forthcoming. The football is already bad, and the basketball just took a big hit. UC football getting Tuberville is huge right now.

Where does UConn go? Kevin Ollie might not want that job if the university doesn't find a conference and quick.

If UConn does not get into the ACC they are left on an island. Cincy should go MAC for football, not sure that it fits for basketball.

No the MAC is too inconsistent, this year was the best in a long time. Cincy would win many many titles, and could you imagine if they were a basketball member? :laugh:

I agree that they would win football more than anyone else, not sure more often than not. Basketball would not be pretty. What other choice to they have?

Cincinnati in the MAC would be hilarious for basketball, at least for the first few years. They'd decimate that conference. After awhile, though, high-profile players that would normally find Cincy appealing would no longer, and the rest of the MAC would eventually catch up with the Bearcats. What the move would do is destroy Cincy's basketball program as it currently stands, which is as one of the nation's elite. As someone who likes to see Cincy do well -- outside of OSU's recent rise to powerhouse status, Cincy was Ohio's most dominant basketball program for years and years -- it would be a sad day to see the program take such a step back.

I hope Cincy can get into the Big 12.

^^^perceptive, and potentially spot on...Cinci not raising the level of the conference as much as the conference bringing them down...something to think about.

You finished another main point for me, one that I didn't hit upon. I just don't think Cincinnati to the MAC would be a good fit for either the MAC or Cincy. The Bearcats need to go to a super conference, where they belong.

Basketball- no

Cincinnati is a top basketball school that could and should absolutely be competing in the Big 12 or another super conference. I'm confused. Do you not consider Cincinnati a top basketball school?

I'll clarify since I answered the second sentence which would be opposite of your third sentence.

Cincy in the MAC would be good football and would dominate basketball, so they should not be in the MAC for basketball.

Ah, after I posted and re-read, I figured as much. And I agree with that.
