They told me that Dennis is not on scholarship and DID NOT sign an letter of intent. If you look up the definition of "grey shirt" you sign a LOI. Dennis did not. If you watch the press conference Terry Bowden did not say they grey shirted Dennis. The deception continues. If Aaron Dorksen is reading this or someone on here would like to contact him the Akron football office phone number is 330-972-7466. I would suggest someone from the Daily Record call and get the proper info. I am on a very long list of Wayne County football fans that would like to see a retraction in the paper and put an end to all of the misinformation. I am tired of hearing the lies and would suggest that the Daily Record do research on any story related in any way to a Dennis. I would like to congratulate the 3 WCAL football players that actually did receive D1 scholarships this year. Good luck boys. Do us proud

Hmmmmm. So according to this, Akron added 13 student athletes and 12 of them signed a National Letter of Intent. Then if you scroll down you will notice that young Mr. Dennis has no highlights to watch and just before his accomplishments are listed it reads "Expected to enroll at UA in January 2015", So did he sign or not?

A greyshirt sits out the first semester (or longer) and cannot participate with the team. Most greyshirts enroll in a community college or JUCO to improve their grades. Enrolling in 2015 extends his elgibility...atleast thats how the rule reads.

Coach Indorf named head coach at Norwayne tonight according to sources . Guess.they kept it in house. Probably a good idea to keep coaching staff together . I had a friend say the team wanted him. Weight room is his baby I know they are working hard.

I get that, but Dennis was a sharp kid. Don't believe he had any issues with grades, so I guess I'm just not sure on why they would do this.

Many in Rittman started questioning his integrity a long time ago, but he definitely had his minions to help try and squash any issues. Yes I believe Dorksen was lied to, but does anyone remember the moron from the post? Very typical though, Bill Dennis did nothing wrong, it was all the kids and parents fault, he wasn't the one who suspended the kid. He is the Dean of Students, sure he didn't actually sign it (that takes a principal) but to act like he had nothing to do with the suspension is absurd. And then to comment the Dennis didn't even know the kid was kicked off the team? Are you kidding me? The head coach had no idea that a starting player had been kicked off his team? Yep, makes perfect sense to me, can you pour me a glass of what ever he's having!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a "gray shirt" actually receives a scholarship or any other financial aid. It's basically a "we might bring you on board next year if you progress as we'd like." There are no promises. Until then, though, the kid pays his own tuition.

Depends what your standards are in terms of "good grades". Last I heard he has a 2.7 GPA and scored under an 18 on his ACT. College rules state that a GPA under 3.0 requires a higher ACT score. If you have a 3.0 GPA, then a minimum of 18 on the ACT is required.

I think what Akron has done is just a kind gesture to the Dennis family. I think there was some legitimate interest from Akron early on, but the interest fell off and when it did, i believe Bill Dennis reached out to the program and asked what the program could do to keep Blake on their "radar". My guess is that the greyshirt route is the ONLY WAY that Akron could come remotely close to making it look like they still had interest and that Dennis was still on their radar. It also seems like Akron has extended the olive branch in an attempt to keep this whole thing from becoming more of a mess (locally) than it already is and to also keep Bill Dennis from looking like more of a goof (locally) than what he already has!

I dont know anything about this specific situation you guys are all talking about. All I can comment on is what I know from someone I knew, Todd Boeckman, and how the greyshirt situation went. I guess one could hope a player gets bigger, faster stronger in that extra year but the general consensus is that a kid gets talked into grey shirting with the "promise" of a scholly because it would benefit him and the team. I know with TB it distanced himself another season from Smith and Zwick to give him more time to possibly be the starter and help the team sign other guys they needed. (believe todd also redshirted that gave another year between). S

That is why I said the kid had a part in this too...however, you can not deny he is in a tough position as an 18 year old...

Totally agree! Very disturbing IMO when I hear that grown adults are following and communicating with high schools kids via twitter, facebook, etc.

I dont follow the kid and I've never communicated with him. I looked him up after one of my friends pointed it out. Dennis is 18 and you have no idea how old I am. Obviously you guys thin I'm much older then I am.

If profiles are public on Twitter, all you need is their name to find them....just search Blake Dennis or whoever, and there they are...don't need to know their twitter "handle."

I don't follow high school kids on twitter, and as a general rule, don't "tag" them in my tweets....lots of them follow me due to the nature of my posts (score updates, Orrville news, etc.)...but I don't need to read high school drama.

In general, I agree with following & "tagging" HS athletes on twitter being a tad creepy, but it can be a communication tool. Many HS & college age kids are on twitter and not facebook.
