Child birth or play the game?

So Charles Tillman's (Chicago Bears) wife is about to give birth to their daughter. She may have the child on Sunday, which is the day the Bears play the Texans. Tillman has said he will miss the game for this child's birth. This is not the Tillman's first child.

My question is, do you play the game or attend the child's birth? I think most will say "the child's birth." But what if this game is the NFC Championship game or the Super Bowl. Then which?

Child's birth. You never know what can go wrong with labor, and could you forgive yourself if something went wrong and you weren't there?

why not both? im sure they have the funds and doctors to set up a birthing room in the locker room somwhere as a standby

I would hope that my husband or significant other would choose to be there for the birth of our child.

Also, I am not normally a fan of scheduled induction or c-section, but this is one case where I think it would be appropriate. It would limit the chances of a decison like this having to be made.

This was discussed and it sounds like they are going natural.

Got the topic from Ross Tucker (former NFL player) on Sirius XM this morning. Tucker said that if it were the playoffs or SB that his wife would say "get your ass out on the field."

On a related note, poor planning on his part:laugh: You hear about this occasionally, but it's still kind of surprising that I can't recall this coming up in a championship game (in any sport). I'm sure it's happened though.

Tell the wife to keep her legs together until game over :laugh: or

Have a team of doctors in the locker room and deliever the baby at half time or commerical time out :D

One of his other children had something wrong at birth. That played into the decision.

I'm hopiing she holds that sucker in. I need the Bears D to do well.

If it were a situation where the father had to work as many hours as possible to provide for his family, then I'd say he should keep working to ensure a roof over their heads, food, etc. But in this case, their family is set. If he misses 1 game, they will be in no better or no worse shape. Don't miss the birth of your own child.

It's up to the player (in this case Tillman) and his wife, as it should be in every case. IMO, there's no blanket answer.

Game, he gets paid Millions of dollars for 16 games (more if playoffs). Needs to be on the field. Don't get pregnant so they'll deliver in the season.

Some women have a very hard time getting pregnant. It's not always possible to just wait until it's convenient.
