A woman who was caught on camera passing a Cleveland school bus on the sidewalk, while the bus was loading and unloading kids, was ordered by a judge to stand at the intersection and wear an "idiot" sign.Shena Hardin, 32, appeared in Cleveland Municipal court Monday after being cited for driving along the sidewalk to avoid a school bus.

The judge sentenced Hardin to pay $250 in court costs and suspended her license for 30 days and more.

Hardin must also stand at the intersection of E. 38th Street and Payne Avenue wearing a sign next Tuesday and Wednesday that says "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus." She has been ordered to wear the sign from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. both days.

A Cleveland Metropolitan School District bus driver captured video of Hardin driving on the sidewalk to avoid stopping for the bus loading and unloading children in September.

CMSD driver Uriah Herron is credited by supervisors for his quick thinking to nab the driver, whose sidewalk detours appear to be a daily occurrence, on camera.

"We had a very conscientious driver for 30 years. He really cares about his children and he took the extra step that this doesn't happen again," said CMSD bus manager Eric Taylor.

The incident happened at E. 38th Street between Superior and Payne Avenue.

She's a woman - so why wasn't she already wearing one in the first place?

Wearing a sign isn't punishment. She already displayed the fact that she doesn't care what others think. Unless this judge is trying to increase awareness on safety near school buses he's failed.

That wasn't the only punishment. Perhaps the fine or suspended license will deter her from doing it again while the sign may make others think twice as well. Now that this is news, a lot more people will realize the consequences of such actions.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and just assume most people don't even think ONCE about driving on a sidewalk to pass a bus picking up children. That idea just doesn't enter a normal person's head.

That's the sort of thing that'd probably cause the judge to decide to send you somewhere where blowing would be done...by you.

Wear an "idiot" sign or spend time in "pound you in the ass" jail. Not a difficult choice.

Yes, I understand it wasn't the only punishment. My point was if the judge thought it might punishment or part of it, in her eyes, I think he's wrong.

If he wanted it t e used as publicity as I stated, I think it's effective.

Based on the hours (when school buses are passing through there), Id assume thats the case. He wants others to see it.

but if it only stops 1 person from doing it, it could prevent death(s).

There are many more people out there that could use that kind of punishment...or simply just wear it just because.

Maybe but I'm not sure how you can guarantee such a thing.

My point was her actions show she doesn't care about what others think.

Thats not true. Cause I highly doubt she is going around telling people what she did. She is in her car, she probably thought no one would ever know it was her.

Trying to discern what she thought is speculation which is what both of our opinions are based on.

I don't believe wearing a sign is punishment because I don't believe she cares what people think of her based on her prior actions.

You do believe it's punishment because you think she will realize some level of humiliation because of her concerns with what other people will think of her.

We disagree.

LOL....finally watched the video. There's the cop just waiting for her - "Entrapment!!!"

After seeing it, I'm kind of shocked and disappointed she got off as lightly as she did. Guessing that's all the law allowed. I would have thought the penalty for ignoring a stopped school bus was higher than that.

Not entrapment. It's a sting operation. She was doing it many times in the past and they had it 'set up' to catch her if she did it again.

And yes, I thought the penalty was a bit low, especially the fact that this wasn't a 'one time' incident.
