I like how you think cruiser.

Pass interference is short for pass play interference. You are interfering with the pass play...directly the receiver that's in the pass play.

The one that's even more entertaining to is when an official states, " Before the snap, fall start." As if there's any other time you can false start.

Partially. Also, Pass Interference is the correct name.

In addition, by designating it prior to the snap makes it a dead-ball penalty and it can't be declined.

Not coming from an official but rather coaches and analysts, I hate whenpeople say to catch the ball at it's highest point. It can't be done.

It should be stated as catching the ball at your highest point.

I've never understood the "loss of down" on intentional grounding. What down do they lose?

That play that the penalty occurred in. Most penalties when accepted have a yardage penalty assessed and then the down is repeated. That's not the case with intentional grounding. The down counts and has been played. You don't get to repeat it. You lose it.

Well, doesnt every other penalty negate the play? I think grounding is the only penalty where you have the penalty and loss the play/down.

I get, it just seems like an odd way to put it I guess since most of the time it isn't all that different than the qb getting sacked.

It is either "offensive or defensive pass interfence" that occurrs during a legal pass play.

There exist two types of false start. One before the snap, the other is a player never setting in position for a second before the snap occurrs and that foul only becomes a foul at the snap.

HS offensive pass interferance was, and I think still, is a loss of down as well! It is a KILLE penalty.

I kinda get why grounding is also a loss of down. It is called when they determine the QB threw it way to NOT get sacked...and of course in the tackle box...so instead of just the penalty and replay they get the second whammy with the loss of down becuase if he hadnt committed that penalty that down was used up anyways.

NCAA- Illegal kicking, batting (except backwards pass still in the air), handing a ball forward beyond the line of scrimmage, illegal touching of a forward pass by a play who has gone out of bounds on his own, illegal forward pass beyond the line of scrimmage, planned loose ball play (Nebraska Rule), intentionally throwing the ball backwards out of bounds to conserve time.
