So I received a paper in the mail last week that I had been summoned for jury duty on Halloween. Has anyone else ever had to do it?

Make sure you go dressed up in your favorite costume, I hear they definitely love that.

Say you're prejudiced against ALL races. That'll help. ;)

I got summoned once and submitted a request to be waived since I didn't live there anymore. I never heard from them again, so I probably have a warrant for my arrest.

I've gotten that notice twice and both times I was all "I'm a student fuck you" and they were cool with me not coming.

Jury duty isn't bad. Just go and stop being a fuck up.

I wasn't telling him how to get out of it...and the two examples I read (didn't live there anymore, being a student) are two valid reasons.

Besides, jury duty typically gets canceled before you even get to go.

Yeah, the paper suggests you call the day before to see if the case is heading to trial or not.

I've been summoned twice but got out of it both times. Once because I was away at school and recently because my boss wrote the judge a note stating I was essential to business operation.

Mine was more of an anecdote than advice. I would actually enjoy going if I could.

I'm straight commission sales so if I don't work, I don't eat. Plus I probably urinate more than anyone on the planet. No way I'd be able to sit that long. :D

That is the thing about jury duty....too many people just cannot go a day away from the pay they get from their jobs.

I was on the grand jury for a while. It was interesting to me to hear about all the crime that goes on in our neighborhood and to see how dumb people can be.

The unemployment system isn't going to crash if you get off the couch.
