I'm looking to pick up a Hyundai Tuscon, Kia Sportage, or Rav4. The last thing I've got to figure out is what is a good % to offer under TMV. For those that have bought a few used cars, how much % under TMV or asking price was your initial offer.

Call a bunch of places and play them off each other. You are allowed to lie if you want.

Are you trading in? If not then on a $12500 car I'd shoot first with a comfort offer of....it's a bit out of my price range...but love it. They'll bullshit you and come back with a special price, just for you of $11,995....then you Jew them down to about $11,650ish

They'll make you think more about monthly payment price....which you can work down the same way

Yes - 12 steps to a great used car deal

1) Stake out the dealership and find the "newest salesman"
2) Take advantage of the fact he wants to make a sale and keep saying "too high" in a chinese accent
3) Get up and threaten to leave
4) Wait for him to run after you with the final proposal
5) Say no to that unless involves some type of swedish massage
6) When he comes back with a certificate a massage tell him to keep the massage and take $200 more off the car.
7) Agree to the deal (tentatively)
8) In the finance room yell at them for hiking your interest % 2 points above what the bank called it as
9) Tell them you want .1% lower than the bank call
10) When they give you bank call scream "too high" in chinese accent
11) They offer you the $200 off the car, bank call, and a swedish massage
12) Take the deal

There is No set % under tmv or asking price to offer on any vehicle. You need to research other dealers and even ebay to see what the current prices are, but the most important factor to use when buying a car is, how much do you feel the car is worth and how much can you afford. I am amazed at the number of people that think you have to negotiate with a salesman to buy a car that YOU are paying for, make your offer and either he accepts it or he doesn't, if he doesn't, just walk away. Always remember to make sure that they understand that your offer is the total out the door price for the vehicle, no exceptions, because if you don't they will be adding on other bullshit fees to increase their profit and you end up paying more than you wanted for the vehicle.

Have them do a credit check if your credit is good. AFter they do the check the ball is in your court.
Demand a car fax
Make an offer they will counter.
If it not where you want it ....

Here what I do.... I get up and say.. Looks like we can't agree and walk out. You have to be prepared to leave the car behind but with good credit they want your business

If the guy or lady stop you ... Ball in your court again

I'm away ready to change the plan and then state .... I will be paying cash...

At this point I tell the sale guy that if he get up one more time to go check with someone else's I'm leaving ... If I can't deal with you and get straight answer the who making this deal ... That who I want to deal with

Note. I have been ask to leave and I have walked away .... However when ask to leave the others in the show room where informed of the situation...

If he spoke like he types I could see why they asked Belly to leave.

Sir, have you been drinking? I don't think it's a good idea for you to be taking a test drive.

I'd be afraid to let him take a test drive since he has an eye patch.
