Just because it's legal doesn't make it right

The Dispatch reported that state Sen. Karen Gillmor was found to be legally entitled to claim mileage from the state for traveling from her home in Tiffin to the Statehouse, despite living in Dublin (Dec. 17).  

This also qualified her for a federal tax break of $155 per day for meals, lodging and other expenses.  

Legal? Yes. But ethical?

At any rate, those people wrote those laws in for a reason. And it sure wasn't for the benefit of the taxpayer

I debated on political forum but opted not 2 b/c it doesn't focus on a real issue but just ethics/saving money...

Our government, both Federal and State(s) is so corrupt, it's not even funny. Special Interest groups, driven by "BIG" (whatever, fill in the blank) and congressmen who ONLY care about getting re-elected, don't care about the "people." The interest of the "people" is extremely low on their priority list. They may listen, but the majority think that the "people" are too stupid to make important decisions.

I'm not entirely aware of the whole situation, but it may be cheaper to pay this congressman her mileage than the alternative. From what I gather she has a residence in both Tiffin and in Dublin? She drove from her residence in Tiffin to the statehouse and claimed the mileage expense? A lot of times these folks received additional benefits such as costs of apartments and per diem for food, drink etc. while on the road. Also, if she is claiming mileage it means she does not have a car. The state will often pay for a car (+maintenance as well). In all likelyhood it is cheaper for the state to give her the mileage expense than to pay for a car, an apartment, utlities, meals, etc.

I know this sounds like I am trying to defend her, I am just saying there is often a lot of other things to consider that we are not aware of. Btw, this sort of thing is not just isolated to the government, this is something you see in the private sector as well.
