I think it is as I love it. Others might disagree and that's cool. It's better than some of the bourbons I used to drink. Good price point bourbon at least I'll admit.

There's a handful of very good bourbons in the $30-40 750ml price range.

Woodford
Maker's
Buffalo Trace

Many more.

Tried the Blanton's tonight as they forgot my Woodford's at the cigar tasting. Too creamy for me. Luckily the brought the Woodford's out later.

Bought a cheap $14 bottle of Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey......I thought it went down pretty good, but I don't have hardly any whiskey experience.

What's the difference between the cheaper stuff and the more expensive stuff?

Anyone who spells smooth with three or more O's is cooler than they were before they did it. As awesome as two fencing narwols.

Claiming that demand is higher than supply, Maker's Mark has decided to "water down" their whiskey from 90 to 84 proof. They claim the taste will not change, but any true whiskey drinker has a hard time believing that. Maker's customers are not happy.

But Buffalo Trace is. They've taken a couple jabs on Facebook today.

Yeah, bad choice by Makers, just increase the price, people will pay it.

I'm more inclined to stick with my other go-to, Eagle Rare.

I have a bottle of Kentucky Straight Bourbon from Antique Distilling Co in Owensboro, KY. The company was purchased by Seagram in the 1940s and dissolved in the 1960s. The bottle has a sticker on it that says 1969. It's unopened and still has the factory seal. The bourbon was already 6 years old when being sold in 1969 so it's ~50 years old today. It's a glass bottle not plastic so not worried about chemicals getting into the bourbon. Has anyone ever heard of this brand and has anyone ever tried it? My mom is coming to visit next month so I plan on trying it then.

Not heard of it, but see it's distilled by Four Roses, so it can't be all bad. The only thing 50 years does is make the bottle old. Bourbon doesn't age or get better in the bottle. Unless you were a collector, which might make it rare?

That's what i thought, doubt the taste would change in a glass bottle. The empty bottle is going for $15 on ebay ha

I'd be tempted to open it and try it, but at the same time it's cool to have a bottle that old unopened.

I have no idea where i could even get it appraised. I'd be curious to know what someone would pay for it. Some people eat up Americana like this.

Maker's Mark caved in to the the pressure and bad publicity they were receiving. The will not be cutting their proof now.

Old Smuggler again. It's no snob whiskey, but it does the job.

Good.

Whether or not the taste changes (I suspect that someone who knows their product well enough would be able to tell), part of what people pay for is the alcohol. As such, you knew people would feel jipped.

Had some Crown Royal on vacation last week and couldn't believe how much I liked it. Going to have to try some other whisky to see if its just Crown I like or if I found my liquor niche.

Maybe it's Canadian whiskey you like. My father in-law loves Crown, but doesn't care for bourbon as much.
