They're a major client of mine. Did you get the Christmas Bourbon? Some of their other stuff is okay, but their Christmas Bourbon is excellent.

My family knows I love whiskey, so got three bottles for Christmas, and some other items.
First, from readers of 11W, I made the Apple Pie Whiskey. So good. It was a present to myself this Christmas.
Bought a bottle of Jim Beam's Devil's Cut around Thanksgiving. I moved the whiskey over to a bigger bottle, cut up an apple, added two cinnamon sticks, and added some vanilla. Let that sit for about a month and had it for Christmas. Holy cow is it good. Recommend it if you all like Apples.

Gift wise, got a bottle of Breckenridge Whiskey from Colorado. Already had a taste, and pretty smooth. Not a deep taste, but still very drinkable.
Also got a whole bottle of bitters from there. Supposed to be really good.

I also got two bottles of Virginia Whiskey, Copper Fox Distillery, a little ways outside DC. http://www.copperfox.biz/
One of them is there single malt and another one is a small batch pot distilled one called 1797, which is supposed to be a throwback to the days of George Washington making whiskey. Haven't had a chance to break them open yet, but have heard good things.

Had a couple of tasters tonight at a work function. Highlight was Elijah Craig 21 yr, and Four Roses Single Barrel. EC had a nice burn that let you know you were a big boy, and Four Roses was nice and smooth.

Well this is concerning.

Great bottle, especially for the price.

My brother in law brought over a bottle of Angel's Envy. Little pricey at $50 a bottle, but it's damn good. For that kind of money I prefer Bakers.

I'm buying a few bourbons as groomsmen gifts sometime in the next week. I'll have to see what they've got in the case.

A friend of mine is a bourbon "guy." To him, Blanton's is some of the finer stuff.

I was able to pick up another bottle of my go-to, Eagle Rare. (Which made a nice appearance on Justified the other night.)

I've had my eye on a bottle of eagles rare. $31 bucks at the shop near me, only hesitate bc I've been burned before by buying a bottle of something I haven't tried before hand.


Hence I now have a bottle of scotch that I'll have for the next 30 yrs!

I've always been a Woodford guy epically at the cigar events. Last cigar event I had some DeWar's White Label Scotch. I have never been a scotch fan, but it was good. I know it's entry level stuff, but it made me want to try more.

I should say one of my beer guys/cigar guys it one of the founders of the Cincinnati Scotch Club. He keeps inviting me to tastings, but I've never gone. That may change.

I picked up a Woodford Double Oaked and an Angel's Envy today. Will be enjoying them this weekend on a trip to Nashville with my future brothers-in-law.

When I started this thread 5 years ago I didn't like bourbon. Now I love the stuff.

My recent scotch activity:

- Bought a bottle of Old Pulteney 12 last weekend because it was cheap and sounded interesting. It was only $30 and I actually like it a lot. I'll definitely keep buying it at that price point.

- Went to a nice dinner last night (anniversary) and tried The Glenlivet 16 year Nadurra. It was very good.

- The last bottle I finished was Aberlour 12 year. Another great option for around $50.

- My wife agreed to a trip to Scotland for my 40th birthday for a scotch/golf tour. That's a good 5.5 years away, but it gives us plenty of time to plan and save up so we can take a longer trip and not scrimp on stuff.

Glenlivet 16 is a scotch correct? I haven't gotten into Rye and scotches yet. Last bottle I finished was Eagles Rare 10 and it was excellent. Got my eye on Angel's Envy next, always wanted to try it.

I love some Eagle Rare. I came across 2 bottles of it recently.
Angel's Envy is ok to me, a little too light, but not bad.

I have went on a bourbon run recently. In addition to Eagle Rare, I was able to find some Blanton's as well as some Four Roses Single Barrel. Both are excellent.
I also recently picked up a bottle of Heaven Hill's Larceny, which is pretty good. I just finished a bottle of their Rye, Pikesville, which was great and maybe the best Rye I have had.

I was in Cleveland for a few days last month and stopped by Red Eagle Distillery in Geneva. Their bourbon is really good for being so new , and their brandy is not bad either. They only sell 375ml bottles, but it is pretty cool to have an Ohio bourbon. I recommend a trip there.

Bourbon for drinking neat or on the rocks my go to is Woodford or Bulleit. Bulleit also makes a great rye. 2oz rye 1/2oz each of dry and sweet vermouth a few splashes of peychauds bitters and a luxardo cherry...best Manhattan ever. +

Stock bourbon for making cocktails is usually makers mark.

For scotch I've been slowly nursing a Macallan 18 my wife got me for Christmas a few years ago. It's been a challenge to take that one slow, it's so damn good but now that we've got kids I can't imagine the next time I'll a few hundred to drop on a single bottle of booze. So it's really just for special occasions when I get that out.

Still not cheap but more doable scotch favorites would be Oban and Lagavulin. I still can't decide if I like Laphroaig. Sometimes I think I do others I think it tastes like someone soaked a towel in seawater hung it over a campfire to soak up the smoke then wrung it out into a bottle.

I envy you guys. I loved bourbon. Problem is I loved it - and every other booze - a little too much if you get my drift. Anyway, even though I've been out of the loop for a few years, it seems like bourbon tastings are very popular these days. Is this taking away some of the mojo from wine and beer tastings?

Had a Laphroaig the other day. It was like licking the ashes after a campfire ... but somehow in a good way.

I'm sure that makes no sense, but it's true.
